Two things are beginning to seem clear.

 

One is that this entire attempt to overturn democracy and the election were planned well in advance.

 

The second is that these delusional types like 45 actually thought the election would be much closer than it turned out to be.

 

They set the stage for doubt well before the election. First, despite the fact HE votes by mail, as do his children and AG barr, 45 repeatedly spewed out claims mail-ins were fraught with corruption. The repubs also made rules that mail-ins could only be counted on Election Day. They knew full well Dems, who believe in Covid, were more likely to vote by mail, and since ED ballots would be counted and tabulated first, the mail-in ballots would likely hit late and night and heavily favor Biden. Because repubs suspected ED voting would favor 45, these late night entries of tabulated mail-ins would 'look suspicious', even though the result is perfectly logical. They would serve as confirmation bias for his ignorant base.

 

Had both the popular vote and the Electoral College been closer, their attempts to cheat and overturn would have had an easier path. When 45 got hammered in the worst repub incumbent loss ever, their efforts gained less traction, and appeared as nothing more than a joke and the flailing of a childish loser.

 

They did play it by ear, however. The degree to which 45's base bought hook, line, and sinker into the scam the repubs tried to pull likely surprised them as much as the drubbing Biden handed them. Once they saw how easy to fool 45's base was, the goal became fundraising. They could toss a few million dollars at doomed-to-fail court cases and recounts (now 1-59 in court), and pad 45's new PAC and personal defense fund with tens of millions. They knew the base wouldn't bother to read the fine print on the fundraising requests, which stated 'only donations above $5000 would go to challenge the election', and lots of <$5000 donations can add up. 45 now has almost $200 million for his personal use defending himself (though considering his $20K/day giuliani is part of that 'elite strikeforce team' that is 1-59, 45's legal defense for Federal and NY State criminal charges may well be as amateurish and incompetent).

 

45 is just spending his last few weeks grifting. Unless he is even more delusional than he appears, he has to know he got slaughtered on 3 Nov, so his sole remaining goal is milking his ignorant base of their meager dosh. That he and his enablers in Congress and State govts are helping foment the violence now taking place in DC and Washington State, and now threatening the Electoral College vote in Michigan, is just additional proof of their rank immorality and violation of their oaths of office.
