CHIANG RAI (NNT) - Chiang Rai provincial officials have launched the “Save Chiang Rai”, or S.C.R. operation in an effort to stem illegal entry from abroad and safeguard the province and Thailand from COVID-19.

A task force, comprising administrators, police, soldiers, immigration officials, village health volunteers and provincial employment office staff, carried out checks of transnational laborers on the first day of the operation, checking their documentation and approval for work in the industrial and agricultural sectors of Mae Sai district. All those inspected had the proper documentation for transit and work.

Similar teams have been setup in Chiang Saen and Chiang Kong districts. On top of the inspections, they are promoting awareness among migrant workers of COVID-19 prevention. Feedback has so far been positive from all involved.

I think that a lot of people are entering Chiang Rai illegally and by passing the quarantine and health checks. This was evident with the 34 ladies that left the 1M1 hotel in Tachilek and came over illegally.  The river is so low you can wade across. Drones do not show night time activity.
