In my last stock check I counted: 5 litres whiskey, 6 Litres vodka, 3 litres gin, 3 litres rum, 1 litre malibu, 2 bottles baileys and 16 bottles of wine.

What ban are we talking about exactly? ????

You're anticipating a 3 month booze ban and lockdown?

Note to self: Go to mom and pop shops and avoid the conglomerate shops.

Come on folks. Common sense and Thailand have never gone together and probably never will. It being announced in advance just means everyone will buy what they need the day before, so the stupid

Do Thai restaurants do corkage? If so, is that allowed on Saturday/Sunday during the ban?

Dont mention Corkage in Thailand

I really think a lot of it is about people not wanting to be controlled.

Buy before.

But if not, if a person cannot find a beer on these ban days at a small shop down a soi, they are totally incompetent.

How do the authorities propose to prosecute me for having a beer in the privacy of my condo? They don't even have speed cameras that work.

I dont see the problem you can drink to 6pm and then get yourself a carry out, and a cashier for 2 days

And if you are on holiday?

It's a nonsense rule that should not apply to tourist venues.

And if you're on holiday there is no need to abide by the laws of the host country! = That is "nonsense"!

A storm in a tea cup - albeit one containing Sangsom soda...

Yes and those overworked bar workers/owners can have a well deserved day off ...

And go and vote !

These people who moan about not being able to buy booze for a few hours are as bad as the ones in ASQ that have to smuggle whisky/vodka in their luggage to get through a couple of weeks.

I love a drink as much as the next pis*head but have done ok and on my 12th day of ASQ.

My chang levels have dropped below 10 boxes, I'd best buy another 20 on the way home tomoz.

Someone needs to point out to the OP's complainers that there is no ban on drinking alcohol, it's a ban on the sale and distribution for just 24 hours!

Calm down, has anyone here actually heard of a foreigner being prosecuted for drinking during elections?

It is illegal to ride a motorcycle with no helmet but doesn't seem to stop foreigners I see.

"...has anyone here actually heard of a foreigner being prosecuted for drinking during elections?"

Obviously not, as there is not, and never has been, any ban on drinking during elections.

It is perhaps an irritant but it is the norm for an election. Not everyone goes to a bar every day and if you do plenty of time for an early session on Saturday and an evening one on Sunday.

No big deal.

For me, the issue isn't a ban on drinking but the fact that all the bars will be closed on Saturday night.

I think there will be a few special coffees consumed.

Where I live the police are right on that

Wouldn't that be racial discrimination?   By the way, most tourists at this time are Thais.

They don't, drinking is not illegal, neither is buying alcohol, it's the selling and distribution of it that is banned for 24 hours, that's all.

Just out of interest....... how do you buy without a sale taking place?

Think I have got it now....the buyer can't be prosecuted... but the seller can?

Another stupid meaningless law from Thailand's Department of Whacky Ideas. The argument is not about people being prepared to abstain for a couple of days but rather, why should politicians and other self important public servants interfere in the lives of citizens without good reason?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but on a normal day, when supermarkets have the 14:00 to 17:00 ban on buying booze, if one buys 10 litres or more the ban doesn't apply?

Where do you live ?  I'll bring the ice.

Yes, booze bans are ridiculous, we all know that. But to waste your energy bitching about it is a waste of that energy. It's what you signed up for. There are booze bans during elections and around many Thai holidays. Frankly they should extend them to some of these holidays where so many people get themselves killed on the roads. That's where the booze bans should be.

But hey, I'm just a foreigner, so I have to adhere to the rules in the country I have chosen.

And guys, if the booze bans upset you then just get plowed at home, lol You winos out there can stock up now...
