Is it really necessary to repeat the same consonant three times. Can anyone explain that below?

As you can below, there are 3 components. แสง (saeng) is the first. The symbol แ is placed in front but is actually the middle vowel (ae), while ส is the initial consonant (s) and then ง is the final consonant (ng). So in the written Thai, you have middle vowel+first consonant+final consonant.
In the next 'word', you can see the same pattern so the first symbol is again แ (ae), the middle vowel. This time the initial and final consonants that are written together are both ว so that gives you วว. The next 'word' วาว begins with ว (w) so it gives you ววว. So it's completely necessary.

Did you see แววววwhen first seeing แววาว ?  I did.  Thanks to KhaoNiaw I didn't make a fool of myself!

No, as stated I saw three consecutive wor wens, which is something of a rarity. The explanation above is clear.

Oh, so  It appears that KhaoNiaw's explanation was necessary after all. Apologies to him!
