EU fishing chiefs are furious at Michel Barnier's decision to increase his offer to the British, amid a surprise Brussels pushback against the chief negotiator. The mayor of the biggest French fishing port Boulogne Sur Mer told France24 that it was right to "stand firm" against the British demands. Frederic Cuvellier said that the UK "depends on EU consumers and not just for its fish, actually".
He added: "So the EU is right to stand firm in these negotiations. It has to go both ways."

Macron stands for re-election in 18 months. 

 

He cannot sacrifice the coastal communities. Failing there he opens a Boulevard for Marine le Pen. 

 

Although she does not talk about Frexit anymore, she is a serious contender

 

 

.. and her stance would be much more nationalistic, so the UK should probably not expect France to keep immigrants headed for the UK anymore.

Of course trade will continue, only WITH customs check, WITH veterinary control, WITH specific certifications, with WTO-third country import duty. And all these things cause delay and price increase.

It seems Ireland wants to stop all beef imports into the EU in the event of brexit no deal

Mr Cullinan told the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee that he would be very concerned that the UK could do a deal in beef imports with a third country in the event of a no-deal.

ONLY in the British press. In the EU hardly a word, as is just a 0,1% of GDP of the "Northsee" & Atlantic" countries . The REAL stakes are in the "make" industry and the financial services of the City of London ( 6.9 %). When all €uro-transactions have to be under control of the EU = ECB, it is quickly over with the City.

Confusion ???? !..... about which Ireland you referring to as our E.U. member Ireland has no problems in any way for exporting to E.U. as it is not a third country ....

All imports from South America are frozen. From Eire it will be fresh (and the UK .. sorry). Means, the UK has to compete on the world market for frozen beef, in which the South American origins have a huge competitive advantage. I wish the British very much luck.

There is plenty of European media doing daily reports on Brexit fishing for French reports you need to search pêche au Brexit

It's the (Southern) Irish, who have to find overnight a new export market for the 37% which goes now to the UK. Depends how the entrance into the UK will be after 1Jan. Maybe the British all convert to be vegetarians ?

If "killing"all imports of (frozen) beef from South America really would be the answer ? ?

Its the Republic of Ireland which is an EU member but their irish Farmers Association wants exports to the EU to be suspended

A fisheries dispute has become a major sticking point in Brexit negotiations as a Sunday evening deadline for a deal to be reached quickly approaches. The UK has argued that it is entitled to take control of its waters, seeking a major cut in EU fishing rights. 

 

 

Meanwhile, the EU has already been accused of selling coastal communities “down the river” with its latest offer in efforts to secure an agreement. If the UK is forced to make any major concessions in order to push a deal forward, more than 30 Conservative MPs could potentially rebel, according to The Guardian. 

The UK has said it would take a “substantial shift” from the EU in order for a post-Brexit trade deal to succeed.

Just Yesterday, on Dutch TV there was a program about the fishery situation for the Dutch. As a lot of "pictures & graphs "even British will be able to understand. De visserij is cruciaal voor de Britten tijdens brexit. Waarom? | RTL Nieuws

When that is all... just compensate the € 40 million /year loss with a stop of all financial €uro-transactions, now going over the City, and there is PLENTY of money to do so.

I daresay Dimitri Rogoff, president of Normandy's regional fisheries committee or Olivier Lepretre, who also serves as vice-president of France’s CNPMEM Fishermen’s Committee and president of the Hauts-de-France Regional Committee, may have noticed an article or two before they discarded their chip wrappers. They are both up in arms at Macron and Barniers failures. French fisherman, Jean-Yves Noel, warned UK ships and lorries will face a blockade if there is a no deal Brexit. He commented: “If we can’t fish in their waters, they can’t sell their fish here." “We will block their boats and lorries, that is for sure.”

The Irish fishermen must have heard some rumours somewhere too. Seán O’Donoghue, chief executive of Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation, who represent Donegal fishermen, said the concession would be an “unmitigated disaster” for the Irish fishing industry.

 

Is there some sort of EU press censorship? So long as some europosters in Thailand haven't read anything about their negotiator's failure, I suppose all will be well with them.

I think we are heading for a repeat of the Withdrawal Agreement. Boris will accept before the deadline, he'll get the deal ratified by the parliament, signed by the queen, say it's the best deal ever. Then he will try to renege again to keep the benefits and reject the constraints. 

 

The whole deal hangs on the punitive clauses, not the word of the UK. 

Its so embarrassingly transparent - Bojo tells everyone on a daily basis how far apart they are then at the last minute shortly after he caves in, will announce he’s got a deal. What a hero ! What a statesman ????

Jerry Percy, chief executive of New Under Ten Fishermen’s Association (NUTFA), said many members who export their live catch to the continent would suffer heavily in the event of a no deal outcome.

The group represents small-scale fishermen - specifically those who operate vessels under 10m – across the length and breadth of the UK. Mr Percy said nearly 11 months after the UK left the EU it is high time the Prime Minister realised “something’s got to give” in trade talks.

 

He urged Mr Johnson to strike a deal with Brussels which would ensure continued access to the European market for fish exporters, which he admitted would require a level of compromise on fishing rights in UK seas.

Till 31 dec 24:00 all €uro-transactions are under control of the ECB, but especially the International EU court in Strassbourg.

1 Jan 2021 00:00:01 the British do not give a damn for any EU regulation, and do NOT recognize the EU court anymore. What happens then ? Imagine, the City looses just only 20% of their business ( of 6,9%GDP) = a loss of 1,38 % of GDP, or.. 14 times the total impact of all fish catch of the UK.

I'm sure of that, but the currency market is only one of many financial markets and derivatives allow the trading of much more than xeno€
