Heat stroke

Featured Replies

It is now 2 months since I had a severe attack of heat stroke which required an emergency hospital visit, a night in ICU with scans etc. I received no guidance from the Dr. there on how to proceed when I got home.

Although I am recovering slowly, I now seem to feel very weak whenever I am exposed to medium heat 30 degrees +. I drink a lot of water each day and spend a lot of time in air conditioned rooms, but outside, even in the shade I seem to get affected with fatigue. I have read it can take 2 - 12 months to fully recover. Any useful thoughts from knowledgeable people would be appreciated.

Are you sweating normally ? If not...there may be an underlying cause that needs to be addressed

As above.

Plus - What are your labs like? If not done recently I suggest you get blood test for BUN, creatnine, ALT/AST, CPK and electrolytes (sodium, potassium) levels done. And a urinalysis. Any lab can do these tests and no need to fast beforehand.

Heat stroke sometimes causes  damage to kidneys and/or liver and can also cause a condition called rhabdomyolysis. These effects can linger or take long time to recover from.

Regardless yiou should maintain a high fluid intake. Depending on the lab results might oir might not need further medical care.
