Britain to place more parts of country in tier 4 of COVID curbs - The Times

(Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has approved placing more parts of the country into tier 4 restrictions, as the country battles a new variant of COVID-19 which scientists say can spread more rapidly, The Times reported.

 

Ministers were considering imposing the toughest measures on parts of southwest England and Cumbria, where the variant appears to be gaining ground even though cases remain relatively low, said the report.

 

The Telegraph reported https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/12/28/two-thirds-england-could-tier-4-covid-restrictions-week on Monday that Midlands and the North region in England are expected to be put into Tier 4.

 

Health Minister Matt Hancock will give an update on regional coronavirus restrictions on Wednesday.

 

Just under half of England's population, centred around London and neighbouring regions, is under the tightest form of COVID restriction. Non-essential shops and most other businesses are closed to the public, and almost all face-to-face socialising is prohibited.

 

Britain's government reported 53,135 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the most since mass testing started in mid-2020 and up sharply from the previous record of 41,385 set on Monday.

 

Earlier on Tuesday a leading epidemiologist who advises the government, Andrew Hayward, warned that Britain was heading toward "catastrophe" over the coming weeks if it did not take tougher action against the more infectious variant of the disease.

That's 200x Thailand's 250 cases today. And don't tell me it's because Thais don't test enough, the hospitals tell the story.

Similar populations - vastly different management systems, community discipline and the weather definitely helps.

Yes, more deaths and infections yesterday, and every single day this month in the UK than the TOTAL all year in Thailand. Catastrophic 
Boris is talking about Tier 5 now. Much too late, that horse has well and truly bolted.

 

UK hospital in some areas ICUs at 120% now capacity meaning they are now having to ambulance patients to other areas. They will all be over capacity soon and that’s when the death rate will spike savagely with nowhere to put them all who need it.

Anutin predicted this in March and warned the Thai people about it. He was criticized by some at the time, but they should have listened. 

It was reported that the new UK mutant strain was 70% more contagious two weeks ago. That has unfortunately been proven now and even more unfortunately it has now spread throughout Europe, into Japan, Australia and the USA who have no effective rules in place to stop it spreading.
 

2021 is shaping up to be worse than 2020. We will be off to a flying start.

That’s a fair question and the answer is not only no, but many are being dismantled. When asked again today on this Hancock said they are still there as back up. 

The latest is that even if they were required there are not enough nurses and doctors to facilitate them so it begs the question <deleted> they were built in the first place.

There's not enough staff to put in the Nightingale hospitals. ICU staff have to be trained. The Nightingale hospitals don't have enough qualified staff or equipment in most areas. They might be useful as morgues.

MSM are not allowing their journalists to go into hospitals in the UK. A lot journos and doctors are completely frustrated with the situation. MSM and NHS won't let them in to show the real situation. If the hospital wards and ICU aren't overrun where's the footage? Not the ones from 2015 and not the ones of empty corridors. A doctor in Manchester finished a very heavy shift in the wards and ICUs yesterday and posted pictures from the corridors and  offices - not a soul to be seen. You can probably search and find his posts. He used his real name and challenged some of the naysayers who immediately got on his back to do the same - how many do you think did?

I am by no means a conspiracy theorist but something doesn’t add up here. 

These Nightingale Hospitals were the Government flagship earlier this year, put up in record time in response to the predicted increases then hardly used. Now they are telling us that this new strain is more potent hence the numbers are racing away with records each day but it appears they don’t want to use them for whatever reason and keep harping on about utilising every sinew of the hospitals already supposedly snowed under. 

In my area which is now under a state of emergency it would be around 30 minutes to get to the excel nightingale hospital so why is t it being used?

I believe it has been mentioned before but there is simply not enough medical personnel to staff them.  

The same situation is occurring in some parts of the US.   Hospitals are reporting being at capacity and the health department is reporting that beds are available.   The beds are available, but there is no staff.  Now some of the hospitals are running out of Oxygen, which means the ventilators are of no use.

 

It varies from area to area, but ICU is very labor intensive and requires trained staff.

A woman in Gloucester has been arrested for placing a video of what she witnessed within a hospital online. Commenters have said the video did not correspond with the "busy" suggested by the hospital management, etc. to the msm.

(It must be noted that there have been no TikTok dance videos of medical staff of late as there was during the "peak emergency" earlier this year. An act that many of us thought very strange at that time when resources were supposedly stretched to the limits.)

 

As it's flu season in the UK the common mantra for years has been about the NHS and how it is at breaking point - however, those Nightingale Hospitals could have alleviated the situation but appear to have "disappeared" and the hundreds of thousands of volunteers who agreed to staff them now forgotten. I'm not denying covid-19 exists but the various media reports do not seem to tie-in with what I'm seeing or hearing. And this also applies to people working within the NHS at various levels who are commonly seen "out and about" and not exactly being bound by the Tiered restrictions in force at any given time to any major extent.

Apologies, you're quite correct. I've seen the full version now. Apparently, it was filmed out of hours during the bank holiday weekend, when the outpatients physio and ambulatory section was closed. Dr Paul Roberts of Gloucester NHS comments on it in a Twitter discussion on the subject.
