Thailand sets more restrictions amid COVID-19 second wave

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's government held off from ordering new nationwide business shutdowns on Sunday amid a new wave of coronavirus cases but empowered some provincial governors to set their own restrictions and pleaded with the public not to travel.

(Reuters) - World number one badminton player Kento Momota has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the withdrawal of all Japan's players from this month's tournaments in Thailand, the Badminton World Federation said on Sunday.

DLT to facilitate inbound traffic to Bangkok when New Year holidays end

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has prepared a scheme to facilitate inbound traffic as people travel back to Bangkok at the end of the New Year holiday. Ample bus services and strict implementation of COVID-19 prevention measures are to be enforced, while the Prime Minister has warned everyone not to travel under the influence of alcohol.

Chonburi Governor: No lockdown in Chonburi

BANGKOK (NNT) - In Chonburi, the number of people infected with COVID-19 has decreased to just 16 from 108. The overall situation is getting better. Therefore, the Chonburi Provincial Communicable Disease Control Committee will consider allowing people to eat at shopping malls and restaurants but it is necessary to strictly comply with public health measures.

PHUKET: The Phuket Provincial office of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM-Phuket) reported this morning (Jan 3) that for the 24-hour period for Jan 2, Day 5 of the Seven Days of Danger campaign for New Year 2021, Phuket suffered just one single accident on the roads.

Thai man just back from UK murders gran then goes on stabbing rampage in Udon Thani

A 22 year old Thai man back in Thailand from the UK to be treated for mental health issues murdered his paternal grandmother then stabbed a massage girl, shot a nurse then was apprehended in a citizen's arrest in downtown Udon Thani on Saturday.
