BANGKOK (NNT) - The government’s 50:50 co-pay campaign has reached a milestone of exceeding 50 billion baht in total transaction value, following the campaign’s Phase 2 extension since New Year’s day.

The Ministry of Finance’s spokesperson, Kulaya Tantitemit, revealed that the 50:50 half price co-pay campaign for general purchases has generated a total of some 53 billion baht in transactions, with some 27 billion of this amount being paid by the general public, and the remaining 26 million subsidized by the tax payer.

The 50:50 campaign had 9.53 million participants in its initial phase, who have spent an accumulated 52.3 billion baht. The campaign has been extended to Phase 2, with 2.5 new participants making some 1 billion baht spending.

The spokesperson urged applicants for the campaign in Phase 2 to install the government’s wallet app and perform user authentication process quickly through available channels, one of which is at Krungthai Bank’s ATM machines which have this feature.

Users can locate these ATMs on Google Maps, and must make their first eligible transaction within 14 days of approval, after which they can continue to make subsidized purchases at participating stores until 31 March, or until they have exhausted their allowance.

Participants in the first phase can accept their campaign extension offer on the wallet app, which will grant them an additional 500 baht subsidy per person, available until 31 March 2021.

They must mean "some 10 billion baht".

However, 500 baht? Not much for the ones that wish to continue the second phase.

This thread will bring out negative comments, as every thread does.

But this would have to be the most well targeted and effective stimulus covid package on the planet. This scheme encouraged people with money to spend their money to go and spend at places that were hurting the most from the virus.

it was called 50/50 but was capped and most spent way more than the savings from the handout. The hotel near my place reemployed 110 workers as have hundreds of other businesses around the country giving jobs to those who needed them most.

The surrounding restaurants, coffee shops, bars and shops also received a boost.

Hotel owners will be making very little profit as it is mostly weekend trade but it is enough to stop the places rack and ruin.

And people got to experience places they probably would not have if this scheme wasn’t introduced.

Everyone’s a winner.

Compare it to the joke stimulus packages handed out in Australia where rich people who were not in need just received cash handouts that were either banked, used to pay down debt or to buy goods mostly made in China which really only stimulated the Chinese economy, and plunged Australia into a debt that will take on current forecasts 60 years for the taxpayers to repay.

Anyway, sorry for that good news, let’s now get back to complaining about everything Thai.

I'm guessing that they meant 26 billion (baht) was subsidized by the tax payer(s)?
