Australian Citizehship application for Thai born Child: What type of translation is required???

Hi

i am currently in the process of gathering all the correct documents for an Online application for a Citizenship by default for my thai born son aged 18 months.

My wife is just about to get the House book and the Birth Certificate translated but we need to know what type of translation to get done.

As far as i am aware there are 2 types of translation available in Thailand those being : Official and Authorized.

one costs 300Bht the other 3000.

I have read the document checklist as instructed by the Immi website (attached) and also attached the relevant part of the document which doesn't make it clear. Also i have sent an email to the Embassy in Bangkok but they dont answer questions and was refered back to the websites.

So the question is What exact type of translation do we require to get a citizenship certificate via the online application and are these same document translation type  required for the passport application which will come after this process is complete.

If you have experience of this process i would be most grateful of a reply.

many thanks

Shaemus

I did it for a friend.. Took the best part of 9 months getting the run around.. You will get a case number and welcome to the Ozz Government B^llsh^t..We spent at least 40 hours sending copies of translated documents with many times sending the same documents over and over.... My biggest tip is go and get a DNA test of parents and submit. They will want this anyway as part of the process.. Do it early!!! It has to be done using an approved Ozz DNA testing facility. (The test has to be sent to Australia using an approved Ozz DNA laboratory... You have to organize test through Ozz embasy)... From my experience doing the DNA straight up will shorten a lot of the crazy paperwork involved to prove citizenship... When you go through the online application you will be prompted for documents required.

By my memory the documents where just translated...Do the 300bht translation... The strongest document you will have is the DNA report. Believe you me do it early in your application to make it easier.

No Aus Father and Thai mother. They were separated but she came to the party to get the DNA test done.

As long as you are on the birth certificate you WILL NOT need a DNA test.

The 300 baht translated copy is fine, but make sure whoever does it is certified and they will stamp the translation with their stamp down the bottom.

FYI, I submitted mine in July last year and was all completed by September, so about 3mths.

Once your child has Aus citizenship you can apply for an Aus passport, we got our childs  Doctor (Thai) to endorse the photo's for the passport.

Passport application once submitted took 3 weeks for the actual passport to arrive via post.

PS: We had the same Doctor to verify form 1195 Identity Declaration

Hope this helps.

Did for son last September

So I take it your an Auss & wife Thai / Auss

Were you married prior to birth

I was NOT asked for DNA of son

Usual docs - Marriage / birth cert - your birth cert - passport - ect ect

Look up Home Affairs . au

The only other Document out of the ordinary that they asked for was proof of Pre natal care

IE: Results of tests/Ect from wifes checkups prior to birth

This was much easier then getting a Passport

Translations should be done by a recognised Translator  (500 bht per pge)

But you should get them to send to the MFA in bangkok as you will need the Authenticity for the Passport application

Yes

that does help. It confirms what i thought would happen. The wife is gather all the documents to be translated and then colate and upload to the application that is partly complete.

Thanks for your input

I will stand corrected with the Birth Certificate not being completed properly with the Father of the child. It was a typo not noticed at the time of issue of the Birth certificate. This may have led to a big run around and getting the DNA test done as proof of parenthood. His birth place being from the UK but Ozz citizenship/passport complicated the application. DNA is definitive so after the test the application was approved straight away... good luck with application..
