House impeaches Trump after U.S. Capitol siege; his fate in Senate hands

The plan is to orchestrate widescale insurrections, similar to last Wednesday, at as many state capitols as possible, on the 17th. PA is a major target, orchestrated by Mr. My Pillow. Trump then calls martial law thus delaying the inauguration for the period of martial law is maintained, which is under the control of Trump, i.e. forever.

Another cunning plan to subvert US democracy which is already in the gutter. Oh how the rest of the world is laughing at this, self proclaimed, "bastion of Democracy".

Unfortunately, Democrats won what they were trying to win. It was a horrible slugfest as predicted from the very beginning, and they narrowly squeaked out their goal. Right or wrong, they got it.

The impeachment move against Trump by the the Dems is infantile. It will achieve nothing other than to sew even deeper divisions within the US, and to enrage further those who have been economically disadvantaged in recent years. Shame on you Pelosi and your grovelling sycophants.

The recent years was under Trump, so what are you rambling about.

very good points, and completely unnecessary, but it will not go down well with the righteous anti-Trump crowd ????

Biden can see they are making Trump a martyr, and he is not finished politically, 4 more years of Trump coming up as the main opposition

This time he will be convicted by the senate and won't be able to run ever.

It’s naive to believe the Republicans would ever convict Trump. They not only don’t care; they’re not “spineless” or “fear”—they love it. It’s exactly what they and their party are: totalitarians and fascists(*).

According to historians who attend these and other protests, it wasn’t just freaks storming the Capitol, but everyday-Republicans and even GOP politicians.
They’ve always been the party of minority rule based on voter suppression. They filled the courts with their henchmen, all the way up to the Supreme Court. Almost none of them has ever spoken up against Trump, not even after his attempted coup. In fact, only a few days after the failed coup, Graham travels with him to the Mexican border; some refuse to go through the new metal detectors; only 10 vote for impeachment; and one will even be filing articles of impeachment against Joe Biden once he’s taken office.

Make no mistake, that soft distancing from Trump that you’re seeing now is pure damage control. Frankenstein’s monster, the useful orange idiot, got out of control. But that doesn’t change the fact that he was always Mitch’s baby

that he groomed to bring the party closer to dictatorial power under the disguise of “American democracy”.

They will never convict him. They want him to run again 2024 to try another time to establish a Republican Reich.

The Democrats will have the senate in a couple of days, to prevent him from running ever again they only need a normal majority which they have.

I wasn’t aware of that. Whether they’ll do it is a different story though.

Why would they impeach him and then not sentence him?

You said “to prevent him from running again they only need a normal majority”. I was referring to this.

You are now talking about the impeachment. To convict him there, they need 2/3 of senators.

Is maybe good news Trump impeached if a President is unable to pardon any person impeached so means he is not able to pardon his self ?

i believe that can only be done AFTER a conviction.  the senate would have to pass the article of impeachment with 2/3 first, then a simple majority could apply sanctions.

As has been explained many times before, impeachment is a political process.

Regarding Trump having "nothing to do with that so-called little "insurrection""; Trump revved up the crowd, pointed them to the Capitol building, then refused to authorize the National Guard after the Capitol Police were overwhelmed.  That certainly strikes me as incitement to violence, but I'll leave it to people with more experience in the law to make that call.

BTW:   The insurrection was not little, it was the first attack and occupation of the Capitol since the War of 1812.

What is the relevance of ‘legally’. You better tell that to those arrested because they say they did it on the orders of the president.

Actually trump did say protest peacefully during his Jan 6 speech, but spent an awful lot of time falsely alleging voter fraud and other political BS, plus saying he would walk with them to Capital Hill, but did not. Quote from his speech...

I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your votes heard today.

He said a lot more than that.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/10/us/trump-speech-riot.html

Trump urged his supporters to ‘fight much harder’ against ‘bad people’ and ‘show strength’ at the Capitol.

“Republicans are constantly fighting like a boxer with his hands tied behind his back. It’s like a boxer. And we want to be so nice. We want to be so respectful of everybody, including bad people. And we’re going to have to fight much harder. …

“We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them, because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.”

And it wasn't just Trump.  His surrogates were even worse.  Hopefully, they'll all be charged.

At the "March to Save America" rally in Washington DC, a rally protesting the results of the presidential election, Giuliani accused election officials of fraud and called for a "trial by combat."

I know, covered by the Snopes analysis, rated 'mixed'. If the Senate get to hold a trial I would guess there will be a great deal of dialogue concerning trump's intent and so on. Personally I hope the Senate will convict and destroy any ambition trump has to again hold Office. IMO trump is the enemy of democratic institutions and fair and just governance .

And might have to go after all those who did the same.  Cruz, Hawley, Jordan, Gaetz, etc, etc, etc.  Time to make politicians accountable for their lies.

Yes, and in the play "Julius Caesar" by Shakespeare, Marc Anthony assured everyone that he wasn't there to stir up trouble:

"Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;

I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him."

Of course he then revved up the crowd so much they burned down the Senate building in Rome.

I'm not accusing Trump of being a literate person who reads, but he does have a similar style; start out more or less sane then go crazy and take the crowd along.  Of course afterwards he will reference the brief sane part and insist he had no ill intentions.

How odd that in most of that he keeps saying we, yet in the last sentence he changes from

We to You .

If 45 grants Bannon a pardon, I'll bet Bannon drops 45 like a bad habit.

Yeah... to find the next insane candidate to push - he couldn't keep control of 45. I believe Bannon is far more of a threat than 45.

Maybe... Bannon has the charisma of a raw oyster, so he needs an easily manipulated front man like Trump.  I hope easily manipulated fools like Trump are hard to find, but I've been wrong before, as Trump proved.
