Should Moderators Post?

I've got no beef with mods posting as long as they exhibit some sense of balance rather than putting up inflammatory crap to get others of a different political idiology thrown off. :o

Maybe you should post this thread in the bearpit also.

And I would most probably agree with you.

In a political forum, issues are more, well, politically charged and hence the moderators should be neutral and refrain from posting,...

i personally have no probs with the moderators posting ,and find it strange that they should need or want to use a second usename . everbodies opinion is valid no matter how diverse and it should not be necessary to hide behind a second username ,because moderators opinions are no less valid

Tell that to Leith. Maybe he can rein in the two over there that are creating a real mess with their devisive, heavy-handed micro-managing Red-Baiting! :o

There is no sense in putting something like this on The Bear-Pit right now. The two mods would just call it a "personal attack" on the moderator, and delete the whole statement.

How can someone discuss important problems with a forum when it is instantly wiped off the screen, over and over, by the powers that be??

I absolutely second possom on his opinion and personally even go a step further with not believing in pseudonyms at all.

If you represent an opinion that reflects your true beliefs why not make it public under your real name? Have ever stood up to anything I said, wrote and any decision I made. If you feel something is going to affect you in a negative context not speaking it out might be the better option rather than hiding in anonymity.

Behind a moderator there is certainly also an individual with own personal opinions, which in some cases may not be shared by others but so what? As long as their is fairness and willingness to accept and tolerate differening opinions without trying to abuse "power" a moderator must not be excluded from a forum actually existing to share and exchange experience, knowledge and certainly personal views.

Can absolutely not imagine that a moderator will call someone following the rules an idiot and "punish" or even ban a person for not following his/her way of thinking. If he/she does we are actually not talking a moderator but a dictator and well dictators should actually not be allowed to post.

Oh finally, as it happened to be Darknight who brought this up: I think your avatar is out of line. I LIKE it personally, make no mistake, but you know what things consitute pornography in Thaland, which is pretty much defined as 'any visible nipple'. If the avatar is also hosted on the TV site itself, then this can potentially cause a problem. So my suggestion would be: Go Photo-shop those nipples out!  (But leave the avatar, I kinda like it  )
I don't know where you see a nipple chanchao ?? :o must be your imagination. I only see some colorfading and moving Pixels on the screen :D
QUOTE (chanchao @ Sat 2004-06-19, 17:39:44)

It's likely Darknight won't go ballistic after what I just said about his avatar

You don't know him, Chanchao.

In the past, he went ballistic for far less than that,...

No reason to go ballistic yet guy's, i would have shouted louder when it was my thread :D .

I just feel verry sad that even in the buddhist forum ( Which is the only forum with at least intelligent discussions, No spam, No crappy oneliners, No stupid jokes) A thread has to be closed that if you would read if first not even insults anyone, but merely questions certain practices of a certain cause.

Just as the buddhist and animist one did, just as 80 percent of threads here do.

I feel that some moderators better refrain from moderating when to much *CHANG* is clouding their brain. Furthermore i suspect that some moderators are actually unhappy to moderate thaivisa as "THAIVISA" while they secretly wished it had turned out like "BANGKOKTONIGHT".

It's not because you don't understand the subject matter that you need to focus on a word in the titel.

by the way i'm cool now :D

I agree with Wolfie, moderators should post as they feel . No need to have a moderator with a evil side/ different nickname posting. Good to see where their comming from. Also you get to know them ...sort of

I don't have to log out and log in all the time. :o (Or is there a more elegant solution to that available, like being prompted as which username to post??

Totally unnecessary to log out and in. I have one name logged in using Opera. The other uses Mozilla. I can just switch between programmes.

My other nick?? That would be telling...

Never checked that one out.. Just the name to me implies something very Bangkok-centered, and then most likely nightlife-centered.

Ok, I just did check it out.. Yet another Nanaplaza.com ?

Cheers,

Chanchao

Being a moderator means I volunteered to correct posts that are disrespectful to others or violate the basic forum rules. It does not mean my opinion is more valid than yours, feel free to disagree!

This is enough Chanchao. It explains your position and I must say that you have been behaving accordingly. My compliments. You are a good moderator.

I think that some of the older moderators and members are Bangkok centered. Concerning style a kind of network of former readers of the Bernard Trink page in the Bangkok Post.

A lot of one-liners, beer Chang and less and less about sex. One gets older doesn't one?

The line with which Dr. Patpong (his selfchoosen nick-name indicates what I mentioned above) stops the exchange of ideas about the practice of Buddhism, shows helplessness combined with fear.

In the name of more than sixty million Thai Buddhists he rules that two well-written and substantial contributions are offensive.

In another thread he makes extremely insulting if not blasphemic remarks about the Islam. Especially as being the guard and representative of Thai Buddhism at this Forum, he should practice the basic rules of Buddhism: Tolerance and respect for other religions.

Be carefull 'Dr. Patpong', you are loosing the touch. Step back if you can not handle it anymore. You did a fine job and everybody will respect you for that!

And as always personal ideas from moderators RULE here!

Maybe you could have a look at this thread.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12033

Pretty impartial i would say , no ?

Going back to the "it's only good news forum here again"

There's no way I would have just closed that one myself. (Unless of course the poster was a known troller, etc.).

If I thought the initial post has some disrespectful bits in it then I would have edited out the needlessly offending bits, would have given a reason for doing so, and allow the 'main issue' to stay, and perhaps set the boundaries for this type of discussion.

HOWEVER: This example was not an example of a moderator not being impartial or abusing moderator powers to force his own opinion across!!! The moderator in this case decided that the topic was too controversial and could land the board in trouble. So it was closed. I can understand that call.

In the example Darknight gave, I would have done the following:

- Edit the topic title! The topic was "Modern Bhuddism Is Hypocritical". That's a statement, and a controversial one. At the very least I would have made that into a question, like "Is modern Buddhism hypocritical?" or perhaps something without the word hypocritical in it: "Is modern Buddhism getting commercialized"

The actual body of the post was just questions; controversial questions, but understandable ones. It's not different of asking why the Roman Catholic churc is so full of trinkets when God himself said that... etc. If a forum can't discuss these things then I kind of wonder what things can be discussed..

And if a post is truly pointless and offensive, say a bad brainless case of lese majeste, then the whole thing just gets trashed, not closed, but removed.

Oh finally, as it happened to be Darknight who brought this up: I think your avatar is out of line. (I actually think this whole topic is best discussed in the Forum Questions & Suggestions sub-forum, but admittedly nobody would have read it if Bluecat posted it there. (Also not me. :D )

Cheers,

Chanchao

I just thought that everyone might like to know that UBC will be showing pornography "live to air" for the next two weeks on channel 33 (Star Sports)

I caught a bit of the Wimbledon ladies singles and theres this tidy bird who's nipples had tweaked up a bit (suppose something to do with the cool conditions in London) and I was wondering how long before the police would be in rushing onto the court and slapping a subpeona on her for lewdity.

Then again I thought oh well there will be many more in the next two weeks. Won't there??

I thought also, that I kinda liked your avatar (that was until someone pointed out that it was pornographic)

:D

my avatar being pornographic is like when i tried to explain to guy selling porn cd's on corner of silom road and patpong.

"Excuse me , you want me to buy a cd , go home, put it in my computer, get horny and then what ??? come back here????

I'm already here thank you :o. By the way , you blind ? "

:D

ps: if you change the contrast of your monitor , illusions of nipples dissapear.....

Is your nickname somehow better than mine ? I believe that those posts were offensive to Thai Buddhists, hence the action taken.I will go on being helpless and in fear.
