LONDON (Reuters) - Britain is keeping its borders open for now environment minister George Eustice said, after speculation that the country could be completely shut to arrivals, after it recently tightened requirements for travellers to stop the spread of COVID-19.

“It’s right that we are cautious about travel, but we don’t think it’s right at the moment to close it down altogether and close the border,” Eustice told LBC radio on Friday.

Britain’s current lockdowns ban most international travel while new rules introduced on Monday require a negative pre-departure test for travellers plus a period of quarantine on arrival.

Should have shut everything March 20', look at NZ, life there is pretty much back to normal opposed to the shambles that's going on in the UK.

Could it be that it has been summer down in the Antipodes for the last few months, and flu related ailments tend to be much lower when the weather warms up ? English winters are renowned for nasty weather, so maybe with the advent of "Global Warming" the Covid figures could improve ???? In America many more people die daily during the winter months, one possible reason why deaths in Asia seem to be much lower.

I think this pandemic has breached all seasons in most countries now.....

Still waiting for a proper lockdown instead of this half and half  nonsense.  Whilst Boris faffs around the death rate continues to rise.  Too late for the nearly 100,000 who have lost their lives and he never grasps the nettle so we will probably stumble along behind the curve.  Pathetic!

You don't get the highest death rate in world by going about locking down your borders.....mental.....let everyone in.....the more the merrier.

Why not? The virus is all over the country anyway. Locking down now is a bit like using a chocolate teapot - pointless. Should have done it before the first wave.

Watch out those Russians are coming...I mean does anyone actually believe in that propaganda put out on the TV?
