Perhaps it is all a misunderstanding. You really were just asking for a friend. 

Reported or not, it is very difficult to prove you are working online if money is not coming into Thailand.

 

In theory it is possible to prove that you are working here, but that would probably require installing surveillance software on your devices and monitor your internet traffic...any why on earth they would do this,  just to deport you breaching your visa rules?

Avoid shared workspaces,  as probably many have security cameras installed, you never know who is capturing your screen.

I've worked remotely in quite a few countries without any work visa, never had the slightest intention to go and ask the authorities whether I can do it ????

 

Keep in mind Australia taxes worldwide income, if you get paid overseas you need to declare it in your tax return.
