Well, I think for such a pleasant sort as you with such a pleasing demeanor, they will make a special exception in your case and just give you the "Farang Father of the Year" visa next year.

A man with character and morals who lives by the golden rule would admit that he was wrong, admit he didn't read the original post, and make apologies for assuming facts not in evidence.

Yes, a man with morals would do that; a man with character - good moral character.

One may only wonder why you did not.

We all know that the argument from the closed thread is being continued by the usual suspects. One more - just one more slightly uncouth remark to another poster - will close this topic and get the poster who wrote it a penalty.

Look I may be wrong here, but I am sure "Lopburi" mentioned that if your income is earned abroad and it meets the 40,000 baht per month criteria, and you have the embassy letter, plus evidence to back that up if the immigration ask for it, then that should be sufficient. I do not know of any requirement to monthly transfer 40k to a Thai bank account. That is not my reading of Police order 606/7.17 anyway.

On 22 May I am going to Soi Suanplu for annual extension armed with my recent embassy letter, so will let all know. Thanks

I can assure you that you are correct, but the immigration officers might see it differently, and they're the ones stamping your PP. so be prepared for some extra hoops to jump trough. For me it turned out OK in the end, but there seems to be all sorts of misinterpretations at the local immigration offices around the kingdom. Since you're going to Suan Plu I think you will get what you want, Pattaya, on the other hand, seems to enjoy making problems even though all the papers are in order

Good luck

Morty

We've had a chat about this before, Morty.

I'm not looking forward to when my bank statements come through from the UK and I have to try to "convince" the IO that the correct reading of The Police Order is that there only needs to be evidence of 40k+, rather than that sum being transferred into a Thai bank.

As an aside, can I apply at Soi Suan Plu? I don't live in BKK. Will they insist I do the application through Hua Hin? Anybody? I've got a bad feeling about this now. There are ways around it - ie I reach 50 next August etc etc, but I really thought that I wouldn't have to be doing the runs again to cover me from Dec-Aug. Unless anyone can advise me of my "standing" re the one year extension and transfer of funds, or applying in BKK, I suppose I'l be visiting friends in Langkawi or Penang for a while. Not the end of the world.

I like some people have enough money in the UK to live comfortably in Thailand until my pesion kicks in when I am 60.

And like some people find it a pain to prove the 40k Bht per month.

I will be 48 in December, married to a Thai and am now here on a multi entry.

Age 50 I intend to go the retirement option.

Until then I guess that I can continue with the multi entries.

Or howabout this cunning plan?

Wifey says that she is housekeeper, cook, foodseller whatever.

I pay 40k into her bank every month to show the earnings.

Here's the hard part....she actually pays tax on the 40k. Hard for a Thai to pay any tax I know but an essential part if the plan is to succeed.

Comments are welcome.

what's so bloody hard? have you figured out HOW MUCH tax is to be paid locally and HOW MUCH tax you are NOT paying in U.K.?

(/quote)

The 'hard' part was a tongue in cheek remark, it appears to have been too subtle for you.

ALL the locals I know hate paying any tax and are loathe to declare their actual earnings so avoid paying tax.

My wife is the same.

I know exactly how much tax would be payable by a Thai on 40k. Thats why I didn't ask for an amount, just thoughts on the idea.

FYI I do pay tax in the UK on the substantial savings there and so far have also kept my NI contributions up to date.

the brain cells of Klingons are not that highly developed in order to grasp subtle remarks. evolution is still doing its job :D

you pay tax in the U.K. although you are not a resident? is this some kind of masochism? (pun intended). :D

who or what is "NI"? :o

I moved here to Thailand for good only last year and have not yet gone the offshore route as I still have property and family in the UK and will soon be a grandparent so intend to go back for periods of time in the future.

NI = National Insurance. In the UK it pays for pension, healthcare...

Eases my conscience should I get sick on one of my trips back and I fully intend to get a government pension on top of my company and private ones.

Where is Sunbelt on all of this? I would have thought they would have checked in an commented already.

I have raised the question with Sunbelt and he has promised to check out the situation

with the Head of Immigration.

Then we can out this thread to bed.

Astral pointed this thread out. I felt that anybody that had the extension of stay based on being married to a Thai national would be grandfathered in ( as per the National Police Office Order

No. 606/2006)

(6) In case of the applicant who is married to a Thai wife, one of them or both of them need to have the total annual income that is averaged out not less than 40,000 Baht per month. Except for the case that the said foreign national has entered Thailand before this Order is enforced and the foreign national has been permitted to stay in the Kingdom by the result of having married to a Thai wife, then if the applicant does not have the said income, then, the latest 3 months records of the account book of any Bank in Thailand with the account name of either or both parties need to have the amount of money not less than 400,000 Baht.

The Chief of Immigration in Bangkok, this morning has confirmed this will still be the case after October 1st 2007, the 400K in the bank will still be one of the options for those that had the extension of stay before Oct 1st 2006.

So what is this letter that Pattraporn (captain) references? I guess we will have to wait until October to see what really happens - is this a case of one hand not knowing what the other is doing? Which hand?
