Although congenital heart disease accounts for nearly one-third of all major congenital anomalies, many people are not well aware of the disease and its impact on people in the community. For young people the impact can be particularly acute, with delayed diagnosis and improper treatment creating a high risk of life-threatening illness.

With the global COVID-19 pandemic, people with pre-existing health issues from deprived communities have been disproportionately impacted, including underprivileged children with congenital heart disease who have struggled to manage during this time. Although the disease can be cured, these children require sufficient funds for their medical treatment which is more challenging when families have been hit by economic hardship as a result of the pandemic.

As a responsible corporate citizen, when Mubadala Petroleum (Thailand) Limited (MP Thailand) staff became aware of the challenges these families faced, the company wanted to do all they could to help the community. Having supported underprivileged children since their establishment in 2004, helping young people through education and development support has been a priority, making this latest initiative a natural extension of their efforts.

The company is therefore pleased to have been able to provide funds to the pediatric cardiac surgery project of the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of H.R.H. Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra.

Rashed Alblooshi, Country President, said: “MP Thailand has been committed to playing its part in the development of local, underprivileged children for many years. Since we became aware of the impact of congenital heart disease on children in the community, we wanted to find ways of proving additional support. These efforts are even more important during the pandemic which has hit underprivileged children with health conditions disproportionately.”

“This campaign not only encouraged collaboration and team spirit from our staff who worked together to decorate toys and bags, but we hope it also showed these children that their community really cares. Our hope is that this will give them a boost to keep strong in their fight against the disease,” Alblooshi added.

This project is part of an ongoing commitment Mubadala Petroleum has made to support local communities, and the company looks forward to future projects that build on their goal of supporting the long-term sustainable

development of Thai communities.
