I think I read somewhere that in Samut Sakorn/Songkram areas up to 600,000 thousand migrants are located...

mostly living/working in the same very confined areas.

Hence the infection rates.

Yes, that makes sense, a huge number..... which can keep on passing infection around for some time. I would hope that some effort went beyond testing and some internal methods be employed and these high daily tallies would have started to drop by now. I am inclined to believe that beyond the tests, and isolation from the outside world, not much is being done, and they are being left to keep producing more infections.

I am in fear of refugees crossing the long border to escape the recent  coup in Burma ....

Just how many of these migrant workers are in Samut Sakhon ?

A few hundred thousand? 5-10 thousand? HOW MANY ?

Because this 800 plus has been going on for a while now.

I've read there are up to 400,000 (possibly 600,000) and about 60,000 Thais on wikipedia.

Samut Sakhon/Songkram is a melting pot, large companies allowed to continue to operate with Covid a real problem, but profits come before sense.

And yes, with what is going on in Myanmar I can see thousands trying to get out from what must now be seen as an almost failed country under military rule.

Forget democracy, and watch any country that had ideas of investing pull-out of any talks.

I feel really sorry for the people.

But that can not be, just the other day a Thai respiratory specialist doctor said kids can not be spreaders....

Thai doctors are just like Thai immigration officers, each has their own interpretation of things.

well said.  All this lavish support for the Thai medical system and its doctors utterly amazes me.  A few good ones can no doubt be found in Bangkok and the couple of larger cities,  provided they have had western specialist training, but the majority are hopelessly inadequate.  Google knows more than they do and at least its in English, with which many of them have only a passing acquaintance. My first degree is in Biochemistry, It was a very long time ago and I have forgotten the vast majority of what I was taught, but that slim, residual knowledge has proved to be far more than some doctors here when it comes to prescribing.  I wouldn't trust most of them with a child's chemistry set.

These are mostly migrants trapped in a locked down city and still working to keep the factories operating, infection will keep spreading among those who have not yet been detected and moved to quarantine.

The vast majority are NOT illegals.

True, but the ones who are, ie the ones who paid for transport into Thailand without quarantine, that's the ones that the unelected "PM" has said he would investigate, and has never released his findings.

600,000 / 800 = 750 days

So factoring in herd immunity (and google scienitfic knowledge) it will take 6 months to achieve herd immunity in that area.

Then you have to hope it doesn't spread - yet markets in that area are open, etc

At least now they might come to their senses and open up quarantine free to vaccinated people at least from low risk countries.

And before anyone starts bleating about vaxxed still being able to transmit, look at the numbers for gods sake, if you think a vaxxed person coming from somewhere like oz/nz represents a greater risk than someone walking around right now in Bangkok, u are on drugs
