BANGKOK (NNT) - The leading Covid-19 vaccines manufacturers around the world are pumping out the needed vaccines as the world of 7.8 billion people is in grave need for immunity to get back to normal life as soon as possible.

A vaccination race has raised the global concern over the “vaccine nationalism” issue as the demand for vaccines is outpacing the world’s supplies.

Israel is still leading the race in terms of doses per capita, with a rate of 56.3 vaccination doses per 100 people. Meanwhile, the United States is leading in terms of the total number, with 31.12 million doses having been administered in the country (as of February 1st, 2021), according to Our World in Data, a global tracking website affiliated with Oxford University.

So far Thailand has ordered 61 million doses of vaccine from AstraZeneca and 2 million doses from Sinovac. The country is now waiting for the delivery with the distribution plan ready to give the vaccines to the most vulnerable groups first.

With the population of around 70 million, Thailand has performed well to control Covid-19 pandemic, with 20,454 confirmed cases / 7,158 active cases / 79 deaths.

sinovac was ordered by the government 2mln, for 1mln people.

also some private wants to import first 1mln, later 9mln doses.

Thai authorities are delaying sinovac, they say they want first china to approve in china. Which is not happening, because china has several other vax already in wide use.

But they do export sinovac worldwide - indonesia, brasil, arab countries, hungary (the first european one). They are rising voices of prominent doctors in europe to import sinovac, because astrazeneca is too slow to arrive.

Hungary approved Sinopharm's vaccine, not Sinovac's.

In EU first, Sinopharm's coronavirus vaccine approved by Hungary

Serbia also ordered Sinopharm's vaccine.

COVID: Serbia turns to China for vaccine relief

Sinopharm and Sinovac are two very different companies, one state-controlled and one privately-controlled. Sinopharm is many times bigger than Sinovac.

I wonder why both Thailand and Malaysia preferred to source from Sinovac instead of asking China directly - both could have received Sinopharm's vaccines very quickly because both countries are in China's list of priority countries.

The chart provided above is so incorrect, it's not worth using to form an opinion.

My thoughts exactly, they have re-ordered the list by % coverage but forgot to also update the total doses column accordingly. They have already updated on their Facebook page but not their website.

I'm pretty sure a Thai firm was assisting in production of the Oxford Vaccine, you would of thought that was a good opportunity to get a foot in the door?

EDIT: Just saw above post regarding Thai Production!

In EU Denmark were at first place in the beginning.

Until Pfizer and Moderna started to deliver less vials than promised.

And Astra zeneca said they will deliver fewer than anticipated, so it's up hill.

All eyes on Israel, they will soon be able to tell us how well the vaccine they are using protects under real-life conditions, outside of a clinical trial.
