Thailand's immigration bureau continued to celebrate their achievements in busting gangs bringing in illegal immigrants to work in Thailand.

But they needed Israeli technology to do it.

The issue of illegal immigrants has been a hot topic in Thailand after the second wave of the pandemic highlighted the kingdom's porous borders.

This time IB chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang appeared at HQ with a vinyl board that boasted of getting to the root of the problem.

There was only one word in English and that was spelt wrong. It refereed to an Israeli company called Cellebrite who market data extraction equipment for mobile phones.

Immigration in Surin used this equipment after the arrest of a man called Tawatchai who was transporting 13 illegal Cambodians.

It enabled the authorities to track the movements of money and included the capability of revealing an audio communication with the agent responsibly for hiring Tawatchai and money used to rent a resort that was used.

It led to the arrest of a Mrs Chalong, 58, otherwise known as "Jae Bung Kee" who was operating the illegal migrant smuggling operation behind the front of a travel company.

Two others by the name of Jaramporn,42, and Malai, 66, were also identified.

All three were arrested in the Kap Choeng border area of Surin in Thailand's north east as they were preparing to flee across the border.

In a second case a woman called Srisuda, 30, was arrested and her vehicle seized. She was with two illegal Cambodians.

She admitted meeting nine Cambodians at a natural border area 4 kilometers from the Kap Choeng border post.

The others had already been delivered. Immigration managed to find them all at two other locations.

The ROOT of the problem is Thailand employing illegals.

Close the company and jail the owners and it would stop overnight.

Israel is advanced in science and technolgy comprising a high percentage of industrial output.

That looks humane compared to what police in my USA do to unarmed suspects often.

Thais probably even not likely to shoot a rabbed dog.

When pointing out a word misspelled, perhaps check your OWN spelling?

A visit to cellbrite website is eye opener.  I knew Israel was one of originators of much of cell phone technology, but this company is heavy duty and sells all over the world.

so a private (foreign) company has access to .... there goes your privacy

No more than any other software provider has access. When we file taxes with government, the government uses  a 3rd party software company. When I go to hospital and they check my medical records, it is using  3rd party software.   Cellbrite sells the technology to the client and client uses it.
