BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has confirmed that Thai people will begin receiving COVID-19 vaccinations in June at a rate of 5 million doses a month using shots from Siam Bioessence, which was transfered production technology from AstraZeneca and is poised to be a production base for ASEAN.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Chanvirakul, speaking at the "Producing a COVID Vaccine to Turn Around the Thai Economy" seminar, remarked that anti COVID-19 vaccinations will return Thailand to a state of normalcy and explained there is a clear inoculation plan despite concerns the EU is restricting exports and could hinder Thai orders from AstraZeneca.

He voiced an assurance that 26 million doses resulting from a technology transfer between AstraZeneca and Siam Bioessence would be available in June, adding Thailand is slated to become a production hub in ASEAN.

The DPM urged confidence in the government’s plan to provide 5 million doses a month at no cost to the public.

The DPM went on to note Thailand’s pandemic situation has been light compared to other countries but said the government was applying full control measures, pointing out the new wave of infection was no one in the country’s fault but was due to outsiders bringing in the virus, requiring strict enforcement of the law.

June is far too late really. It needs to start asap. Firstly to reassure the population, secondly to bring back confidence to the economy, to give confidence to those who manufacture, import & export and thirdly of course to give confidence to the tourist trade and eager want to come tourists. Thailand could miss out as the Caribbean countries are already encouraging wealthy tourists and undoubtedly Turkey, Greece, Spain and others will have vaccinated many more people before the summer. Looks like Thailand will be far behind. Just starting in June and a small part of the population that will take it to end of 2021 and beyond. A great pity.

It's laughable all this talk of "High end Tourists" when talking about Thailand compared to say the Bahamas or many other beautiful destinations all over world. If i was a "High end tourist" i wouldn't be coming to Thailand, infact having been in the Bahamas, Tahiti and the Maldives, anything Thailand has shouldn't be written on the same page...... This is the problem, the TAT has never been outside of Sukhumvit.......  In my opinion Mr CP and his cronies should stop dreaming of touting Ban Chang as Bermuda and just go back to what worked for years....   This delay with a vaccine might just give them enough time to realise that they made a massive mistake in promoting Thailand as something it is not......

Watching the Channel 36 PPTV news and it looks like Covax and the Sinovac vaccines will be the first in the country and are now being pushed forth.  Showing all of the production facilities and all of the millions of vaccines already produced, obviously outside of the country.

So in June they will be able to give  5 million doses a month. Lets see, if it takes 2 doses to be effective that means they can innoculate  and protect 2 1/2  million persons  a month. With a population of 75 million people ( not including farangs) should take them about 3 years.

I have seen reports of fake vaccines from China, which is another reason not to trust one of theirs.

So no word on allowing private hospitals to source Pfizer or Moderna and offer these to patients? Thailand has hitched its wagon to AstraZeneca and seems to want to lock out other options? Would be good to get more clarification from the govt on this so we understand why the lack of options when millions of people a day are being vaccinated each day with Moderna and Pfizer.

As far as I know neither Pfizer nor Moderna have so far applied to register their vaccines in Thailand.

Only 3 companies have so far: Astra Zeneca, Sinovac and Johnson & Johnsosn.

AstraZeneca is a good choice for Thailand. ????

You'll probably get 80-85% vaccinated before AMERICA does. ????

Of course, there will always be a significant % of Farangs "living" in Thailand (criminals, morons, low IQ drunks, etc) that won't get it.

Probably many of the same people who regularly come here asking about penalties for "overstaying". ????

It would appear that the Original News Source has used the name of the wrong company and thus there is confusion.   Until this matter is sorted out, I'll close this topic.
