BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has resolved to construct more dams to help farmers contending with droughts and flooding and is to launch the “1 Tambon 1 New Theory Farm” program, aimed at attracting the new generation to agriculture.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has followed up on the addition of more dams and irrigation systems, which are to serve as important mechanisms for farming throughout the country in accordance with the 20 Year Water Management Plan. A 2019 report indicated the country has 7 billion cubic meters worth of water storage in its different sized dams. Another 1.4 million cubic meters was added in 2020 with a total 69 projects slated to complete between now and 2024, adding a combined 337 million cubic meters.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the government unveiled its 1 Tambon 1 New Theory Farm project, targeting 4,009 sub-districts in 75 provinces and seeking to attract 32,000 young farmers by March 31. So far, 20,000 agriculturalists have applied to join the program, which is to provide them with training on New Theory Agriculture. Interested individuals can find information at their district agriculture office.

The name '1 Tambon 1 New Theory Farm' sounds suspiciously similar to 'One Tambon One Product', which originated from someone living in exile in Dubai.

Will a 'rice pledging scheme' be next? Sounds like a good idea!

And when will Thailand get communal  potable drinking water from the tap? So that the plastic drinking water bottles will vanish.

that's probably not his job, but nice to know he showed up in the office

It would have to be something like a 'rice covenanting' scheme.

They wouldn't want to infringe copyright completely.
