Big Joke comeback confirmed - though in what capacity remains a mystery

It has been confirmed by a Royal Thai Police spokesman that the controversial top ranking cop known as Big Joke has been transferred back into the police.

Lt-Gen Surachet Hakpan - the former poster boy of the RTP and onetime head of the immigration bureau - was unceremoniously transferred to clerical duties at the prime minister's office in 2019.

Pol Maj-Gen Yingyot Thepjamnong said that the RTP had received the transfer order for Surachate to rejoin the police.

They were looking into what it would mean as there was no reason on the transfer document that was dated 5th March and received 8th March,  said Yingyot.

He would not be drawn on what position Surachate - known universally by his Big Joke nickname - might be given or what his role might be.

Reports have suggested that Surachate could still be "inactive" as an investigation is still ongoing.

Earlier PM Prayut denied signing the order. This was confirmed by Yingyot who said that a PM's office official had signed it.

Thaivisa notes that it would be absurd to suggest that the Thai PM has not been fully apprised of the matter. He was testy when questioned about this on Tuesday by reporters.

The Lt-Gen has been a thorn in his side with many suggesting he has stolen the PM's thunder.

Yingyot told Daily News that RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk would be looking into the consequences of receiving the transfer order.

He would not confirm that Surachet would take up a position in the RTP in April saying that he could put no timeframe or details on the situation.

Amazing Thailand, is all that I can say!

Best put him back into a similar position or risk the Yingluck principal and end up getting removed from office Mr. PM.

So they finally woke up, i.e. he actually has a case against the PM and will win when the court rules in his favour and he gets compensated for the transfer and his position/title is reinstated, regardless is he is put back in that job, he will receive equal pay even if in a lessor position or different position.

Good on him for having the balls to challenge the power that be, regardless of what people thought of him during his reign in the top job.

this article names Big Joke from immigration as one of many cops, who payed for his elephant ticket. No matter what investigation against him brings, he will be bouncing between different royal police branches. He is untouchable. Until he turns directly against his masters (certain man and a woman, who signed his ticket), he is set to the top positions

Unbelievable just unbelievable, 1 minute kicked into touch, no reason given.

Shots fired at his car, so appears  that was a warning, keep quiet or else.

Sits there shuffling papers for a year or so, then hey presto he is back.

 Self-inflicted PR stunt.

Earned him extra time.

Filthy and rotten to the core virtually the whole  stinking  lot of them, all held together with fear and intimidation, very much like the society.

He will be solving Cold Cases

Might be a few worried people about, he certainly seemed liked by many who might now feel it's time for a major shake-up and, time to shift a few alcohol sprayers,  watch collectors,  convicted drug dealers along with many others out the door, hence the dummy spit yesterday.

No, It's the land of compromise... Prayuth obviously took this message to heart and felt compelled to give him his job back.

I don't confess to being an expert on the subject, but from what I heard and remembered, BJ was pretty popular and famous for being honest. I'll never forget the 'no tips' pics and corruption warnings with his face all over posters in IO's.
