PHUKET: Officials at every government office across the island have been ordered to not use government vehicles for private use, following an order from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The message was delivered loud and clear by Phuket Vice Governor Piyapong Choowong at a meeting of the Phuket subcommittee on the implementation of the National Strategy on Anti-Corruption at Phuket Provincial Hall on Monday (Mar 15).

V/Gov Piyapong explained that the Office of the Prime Minister had issued an “official notice asking for cooperation” from each government office in the country about the use of government vehicles.

And why only Phuket? This is a common issue everywhere.

The article suggests it is countrywide but It appears that, thus far, only Phuket has publicly confirmed the pronouncement. Maybe the other provinces have filed the notification in the 'too difficult' tray.

Damned hilarious, we are asking you very politely to stop abusing your positions, by only using your assigned government vehicle for government use, bloody priceless.

Almost everybody knows a government employee who uses/ abuses his/ her government vehicle.

Should have read, stop your unlawful activities now, or face losing your job.

Quite simply, these Government Officials and their Families are stealing.

This is no different than stealing a few Pens or Pencils from the Office

its theft.

Rubbish. Working as field staff for the NSW Government meant we were assigned a vehicle that you could used for private business within reason. The non field staff with no Government car of course complained and restrictions came in later but you could still go to the pub on your way home, every day if you wanted.

Not in the too difficult tray ,just Everyone uses the vehicles as their own .

The rule has to go From the Top down so they are stalling the Progress to Enforce the Rule.

They'll just have to use the BMWs and Benz's that they have somehow managed to purchase on a local government salary.

That's called financing, the way the majority of vehicles are acquired in Thailand, nothing unusual about that in vehicle buying.

That this even needs to be brought up speaks volumes about the endemic corruption that plagues Thailand. A pathetic and historical example of the homespun epidemic that will not be relieved anytime soon.
