BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) plans to use the revamp of the Klong Ong Ang as a model for other community development projects after the Klong Ong Ang canal restoration project won a 2020 United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT) Asian Townscape Award.

Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang said the BMA has steered the canal restoration project in Bangkok by working with related agencies to elevate the life quality of people and promote sustainable town development.

He said the project aimed to restore the canal and public areas nearby under conservation guidelines and promote community identity, focusing on the growth of trees along the canal as well as sprucing up footpaths along the banks and bridges.

The governor said the BMA has also enhanced the landscapes of other canals, especially those being used as transport routes to major tourist sites.

While the photo looks good, I wonder if they successfully persuaded locals to stop throwing their rubbish into the canal due to its convenience?

They should do this for the klongs in the core. The first would be the one near siam

Seems like a no-brainer......tourists love that kind of stuff.

This is a beautifully done project however like most countries around the world they loose their attractiveness because no one maintains them. Thai people are not good stewards of their environment.
