Sixty Percent out of 1,737 of public toilets in Phuket are set to improve and meet the Healthy Accessibility & Safety or H.A.S. standards of the Public Health Ministry. In preparation for the new project, the provincial Public Health Office on Wednesday held a meeting with responsible personnel, both in government sectors and the local Administrative bodies. The official from the Health Office Tha-na-chit Sod-sing explained that it sets to improve 12 types of public toilet facilities such as those in tourist sites, hospitals, markets, temples, schools and bus terminals. He admits that only 39 or 2% of public toilets on the island currently meet the standards. Thana-chit pinpointed the points of improvement including soap for hand cleaning and wash basins. The toilet improvement is also part of the projects for the country which hosted the World Toilet conference last year.
