Followers of Thailand’s United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), or the red-shirt movement, assembled at the October 14th memorial, at the Kok Wua intersection on Ratchadamnoen Avenue in Bangkok on Saturday, to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the violent crackdown on red-shirt protesters by the government of then Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

 

Among the key attendees were UDD secretary-general Nattawut Saikua, former UDD chairwoman Thida Thavornseth, Dr. Weng Tochirakarn, Dr. Sant Hathirat, Associate Professor Puangthong Pawatrapant and some opposition Pheu Thai MPs.

 

Mrs. Thida said that, despite the high risk of COVID-19 infection, an event to commemorate those killed during the crackdown must be held, albeit in a curtailed form.

japanese foto journalist from reuters Hiro Muramoto was shot by soldiers at that very intersection, certainly was not violent and armed. 

Investigation was bungled by army, first they insisted that bullets from the AK were found and thai army don't have that weapon. Later they said they can't find those bullets, they went missing. Soldiers were firing in an automatic mode directly at crowd. 18 were murdered, another 800 injured. 

He was video-recording to the very moment he was killed.

A commemorative article was written by another journalist from reuters under title "In memory of Hiro Muramoto" where more details can be found. 

Later on, on 19th May, a nurse giving an emergency treatment, was shot by the army snipers, together with 5 other civilians at the temple designated by army as a refuge for those escaping from a crackdown on ratchaprasong, she and the site properly signed with red cross flags.

No any soldiers and their commanders were found guilty, which says all about thai corrupted justice system, thai army and thai ruling class

How many of these so called reporters have military experience? A good training could maybe have saved his life. I have seen many of these journalist cowboys do silly things to get the right angle. The world "press" does not mean anything to a bullet, it just goes in the direction it was aimed to go and somethings change direction because it hits something else. On the other hand, unfortunately mistakes and accidents happen. A sniper taking out a nurse????

yes, snipers were used in bts line to shoot into temple compound. She was killed in the back right outside temple gate while giving help.

Her name is Kamolkate Akkahad, you can find a lot info, her mother is still fighting for justice, arrested many times by military

One of the main reason protesters wanted an early election, and Abhisit a late election, was that they wanted to be in power for the nomination of a new army chief in September 2010. When one knows who did what in order to stop protests,  and also four years later, it appears to be quite a relevant explaining factor.

Yes, it does indeed. The legendary Thai skills of lying, cheating and stealing on full display in all of their glory. and not a filthy foreigner in sight except the poor Japanese photographer (whose camera was promptly stolen, as I recall, as soon as he was dead and couldn't really object).

Clearly one of those sickos who can justify any delusionary notion. However factually an unarmed nurse was shot in the head, whilst in a Wat, by a military sniper yet that murderer has never faced justice. By the way the ultimate army supremo at the time was the current PM. Collateral damage you say, I say sickening murder condoned by all subsequent regimes since 2010.

You may recall that one night he appeared on the jumbotron at the Ratchadamri occupation and had forgotten to put on his hairpiece, exposing his bald pate.  He brushed the incident aside, "just a little bit of chemo" he said.  I never came across a detailed account of his condition.

 

A few years back he reportedly bought the most expensive piece of real estate in the world, or so it was said at the time.  It was in Hong Kong.

Yes I know the situation and yes she was killed by a bullet. while helping other people. But do you have proof it was a sniper? On the picking order of a trained sniper the nurse will not be a priority.
