Has anybody seen or heard of any testing locally, I've  been here last 15 months and certainly not seen or heard of any? There again if you don't test theres no bad news????

I posted in another thread about someone being found positive for Covid in my condo complex. An investigation is pending and the site management are awaiting instructions from the relevant Government department.

In the interim they are closing the common areas: gyms, pools, libraries, games rooms but not the most used common area which is the onsite 7/11. Temperature testing there is a DIY affair inside the store and there are as yet no limits on how many customers can be in the shop at any one time.

One might expect that everyone who lives or works on this complex might be tested for Covid. It will be interesting to see if this happens. I am doubtful; if many are found to have Covid where will they be hospitalised? It is rumoured that hospitals are not able to cope with large numbers of infected patients. I suspect we will all be advised to contact a hospital if displaying symptoms of the infection and no more than that.

We will see. Stay safe. ????

The protocol as I understand it is that everybody who tests positive has to be kept in a supervised medical facility. If you are symptomatic that will probably mean a government hospital somewhere (I'm not sure if farangs can opt to pay to stay in a private hospital, but it hasn't been mentioned anywhere that I've seen so I guess not), but even the asymptomatic patients have to stay in a field hospital. There is no option to self-isolate at home, even if you are asymptomatic. This works fine (though many farangs think it's way OTT) when there are just a few hundred new cases each day nationwide, but if the numbers swell into the thousands then the proper medical facilities will quickly become overwhelmed and everyone, apart from the seriously ill, will end up in a makeshift field hospital. This is why we keep reading about the army setting up 10,000 bed field hospitals around the country at times like this.

How can they legally enforce that......? Seems a huge step to me in terms of basic human rights.......get in ill and the state can effectively lock you up?

Looks like the best course of action is.....don't get tested!!!!

Yes, as long as your symptoms are mild, then it's best to simply self-isolate.

If your symptoms worsen and you need serious  medical treatment then you'll have to stay in a hospital anyway, and the Thai track record for treating patients seems to be quite good. What makes me feel uneasy is that the whole thing is geared up to how much you can afford to pay. The article says that Covid insurance is essential, but how many people do you know who have it? I assume that normal private medical insurance won't cover the cost, and you need specialised insurance, the same as new arrivals have to have.

Having spent a fortune earlier this year for an MRI and biopsy I have no desire to part with anymore money. I can see a return to the UK looming.

Anybody else noticed that signing into shops with the app or book is no longer enforced.

Mackro security was just letting the Thais walk in unchecked yesterday. But of course they stopped me to make sure the dirty farang had logged in with his phone.

Same in Foodland today. Everyone just walks in. almost got pushed out of the way because I stopped to log in.

Yes, I'm keeping that option in mind too. In the absence of any vaccines here, if things get much worse then it would make sense to risk the flight back home where you could at least get some Pfizer or AZ stuck in your arm. The way things are going, new daily case numbers in Thailand will soon eclipse those in the UK, and deaths are always a lagging indicator so they're bound to rise here soon too, and the UK will simply be a much safer place to be than the Land of no Vaccines.

From what I see they do.

These field "hospitals" are nothing but lock ups with a mattress and a frame. Obviously filled with symptom free people. No treatment, no medical equipment to be seen. To me the most silly method to make sure people BECOME infected locked up indoors. Compare with the infections in the prisons/detention.

At the same time men in protective suits spraying forest areas!

Stupidity that is hard to beat.

Just had a video call with ex gf who tested positive  and is in sattahip field hospital. Big space with many beds, but no sick people there, she said they in hospital. Looks like boring place. Prison it is effectively.

Seems covid is getting widespread here now.

Someone I know in the Bangkok area tested positive and was expecting to be picked up and taken to hospital, but heard nothing. She called and was told no space available and to stay home. Perhaps more concerning.....

Actually yes... Was not too concerned until yesterday. About ten people either confirmed positive or in quarantine from her and her source in pattaya now. Those waiting test results seem to  be in home quarantine, but for confirmed ones still have space in sattahip even if asymptomatic ... But if spread rate won't go down, will fill up quickly, which likely will only those who seriously sick will be taken to hospital

I suppose thinking left of field but wonder if it would be that bad. if everyone in the hospital already has the virus there would be no need for social distancing. I suppose no alcohol allowed but I wonder how strict the male/female separation is.  Being stuck in a hospital with hundreds of bored Thai females seems an interesting concept to me. I'm not volunteering to go and find out.

If they are already positive it is a bit late to worry about getting infected. I doubt exposure would change asymptomatic to symptomatic.

I took it out last year, 850 Baht.  Renewed again in Feb as the offer from Roojai was 650 Baht.  At the rate it is going in 5 years time they will be paying me ????

Update.... the person I know was contacted late yesterday, collected and taken to a hospital in Pathum Thani. Still asymptomatic.

I was listening to the local Covid news on the radio this afternoon (Tommy on 103 FM), and it seems to be all over Pattaya now. I used to drink in the Rompho market bars in Jomtien every afternoon, and the barbecue buffet restaurant at the top by Soi 17 is on the track and race list. As is Fraser's Sports Bar in Jomtien, where I often used to eat. There were numerous other places across Pattaya mentioned, and I recognised many of them, even if I've never eaten or drunk there. It's worth tuning in to hear that as it puts things in perspective, this isn't something in a bar in Bangkok or Chonburi CIty, it's all over the city and, if you live on the Bright Side, there's probably somewhere on the track and trace list within a few hundred yards of you. Full Covid precautions, people, it's way too close for comfort now.

Yeah... Knowing the lifestyle of the few people I know that have tested positive,  many many places around town have been visited by infected people in past week or so. So better be cautious... If touch somewhere wash hands before touching face.

I have had private medical cover worldwide for me and the family for many years when I rang they said of course you are covered. Those that are arriving need 100 000 US in medical coverage from a company that will ensure that coverage includes covid as well.  It's not just "covid" insurance

I know many people that had the intelligence to have health cover before covid and all have been informed by their insurers that covid coverage is part of their policy would actually like to hear of and pre covid insurance coverage that wouldn't cover it and I would certainly be questioning why not.

Obviously those that are excluded from insurance due to age will have some difficulties or who only travel on basic travel insurance as I doubt that would cover it either.
