How do you go about finding a chiropractor...what are they called here? My wife wants me to go to a hospital for that but in Canada chiropractic specialists are completely independent and really not part of what we would term the medical field (much to their chagrin).

my lower back needs doing about once a year to get back in shape!

Chiropractors are not recognized by the mainstream medical profession.

We have a few in Phuket and I know people that have been for treatment.

It's funny, but every chiropractor for every case comes up with the same diagnosis. That is that the spine is incorrectly aligned which cause the pelvis to not be balanced.

It's all pure quackery. Go visit a qualified doctor who can back up his diagnosis with provable facts.

I found one in CNX..not sure where you are in LOS

BUT i had been using a Chiro for yrs and while in CNX going to school to get my TEFL degree a aussie gal said to me--maybe its all in your mind

Made sense--my back would get fired up and my neck muscles and the chiro was a temp fix.....I found stress kicked up my back and neck

and when that happened I looked at WHY .....rooted out the stress....gave up the chiro and would get a weekly thai massage to keep my body in check

I’m with you but after socializing periodically with a chiropractor periodically I was curious enough to take a chance and now about once a year I have my upper and lower back adjusted and within two days I feel better and back to normal!

I’ve spent thirty years in the gym after a discectomy and might make my case a little different...in any case it works for me and once every 6-12 months or so isn’t much to ask to feel a little better

Not necessarily...I think the generation before this new group of guys certainly were but it’s like anything else....there’s good and bad!

I wouldn’t have believed in acupuncture  as solving anything either but a friend of mine who happens to be the biggest pessimist I know on such matters was forced to try it by his wife and found it worked for him....now he’s  a believer????

I don’t fall for things easily and a pessimist myself but I do know what makes me feel better!

***All in my mind?....of course it is...that’s where all pain and discomfort is!

They don't call them anything. Not a recognized discipline here.  Consequently most are expats. Since it is not a recognized profession there is no regulation so caveat empter. Some of the people calling themselves chiros here are professionally trained and some not.

Rupert, I would like to know the names of the two chiropractors you recommend in BKK.  I've been trying to get my GF to one for years.  I swear by my one in NY.

Its $$$$ and if I had to do it again I would aim for yoga---the chiro did the "crack" and was only good for a quick fix--in MY exps.....weekly deep massage works for me and i ride my bike daily..keep things moving...

“Opinions” on all things medical always blow about in the wind...unfortunately all bodies are not the same! Age and past history make everyone different and what works for one may not work at all for the next!

I do agree if I had to choose only “one way” to keep my body in order and running it’s peak it would be yoga with weight resistance a close second depending on what you want!

it’s never too late for yoga!

True but some of us here are looking for excuses to give to our wives about why we absolutely need to visit Pattaya. Three or four nights of intensive treatment ought to do it.

Ahhhh I see....

I was a little slow on the uptake there.....now you mention it massage just might be the answer after all????

I do hope that you can locate a good one. I'm afraid that I don't have any recommendations, but do have some information that might be of interest.

The first (and maybe the only) recognised and properly qualified chiropractor in Thailand was Philip Parry (British). He had his own private practice in Chiang Mai for a while, then worked in Hua Hin (Chiva-Som) and Bangkok, before having a permanent position at Rajavej Hospital in Chiang Mai. He had many very satisfied patients, including myself. Sadly he returned to the UK last year.

I went to see an orthopedic surgeon in Chiang Mai's top hospital with a very painful, debilitating condition. After x-rays and other tests this surgeon confirmed a serious problem that required immediate surgery. He wanted me in same day. The surgery would be very expensive and somewhat dangerous.

Much to the annoyance of the surgeon, I decided to seek a second opinion from Philip. Two sessions later (total cost 2,000 baht) I was back to normal, no pain, full movement. That was nearly 20 years ago and I've been fine ever since.

As I said, I hope that you can find a good chiropractor like this. Check qualifications and try to get testimonials. Hopefully some posters will oblige here.

Yeah, I had a problem with my back. None of these guys helped much. I reckon the vertebrae fused after a while. I must say a properly trained physiotherapist can diagnose stuff outside of the box. Like I had a separate problem which turned out to be osteoporosis of the femur. Physiotherapist got on it right away, Turned out to be temporary osteoporisis. But it put me on the right track. Like I could see a specialist, get sick notes for work, and what have you. The specialist was amazed as me when  I spontaneously recovered. Interestingly, to speed  up the process, I got some scans done in Thailand. The NHS is great, but you can help the process.
