They have always done what's best for Thailand and the Thais.

I guess that's why Thai people are paid so well then, and earn about the same amount in a week that mcdonalds employees get paid in less than a day in the west  ????

Others say Thailand didn't have any strategic importance or anything else (like the mallacca staight) worth fighting for ????

Britain took what they wanted, the southern states of Thailand which are now the northern staes of Malaysia.  The French took what they wanted ie the part of Thailand centred of Battambong which is now in Cambodia.  The French and British left the rest of Siam (as was)  as a buffer zone between the British zone of influence, Burma and Malaysia (as was)  and the French zone then known as French Indo-China.

Yeah, a very good deal for the Thais.

Had the Americans building airports, roads and even marrying the single mothers.

Translation: Thailand can be used as a base for foreign nuclear missiles by whoever pays the most.

Remember, Death Railway wasn’t built that long ago.

"Leave thailand alone, pay us something, don't attack us and you can do what you want to do" should have been the defence ministry's spokesman's comments.

The British and French decided to not take control of Thailand even though they could have either shared or taken power individually at any time, back in the day.

Just down the road from my place there's a monument comemorating the victory of the Thais over the French. Are you really sure about this?

Those yanks are such bad shots  they missed their target Vietnam by a whole country mile ????

I suggest you visit the Cope center in Vientiane some day. Maybe then you wouldn't make silly jokes about the devastation of a nation.

Not sure where you live in Thailand, but maybe the French didn't like the food there.  That may account for the "victory".  Or at least the aftermath.

"Jatupon had claimed that the missiles were brought in on a container ship and some media were aware of the story. "

maybe he was watching a rerun of the PBS America documentary about the Cuban missile crisis - and the subtitles were missing....

They were quite happy for Thailand to be a base for the dropping of the most bombs in history on a single country, Laos is still suffering from that. So I would not be surprised if they were harboring nukes here. There are still over 70 million unexploded devices in Laos dropped via Thailand from USA planes.

Next time, tell the Laotians to not harbor North Vietnamese troops and bases,,,,then bombs won't fall,....war is hell in case you forgot!

All that bombing and killing of a neutral country and the Americans still lost! War being hell is something they have yet to learn it seems, after Vietnam they did the same in Iraq and Afghanistan,  they cannot help invading people, then losing.

There is a similar rumor that Chinese warships will be based at a Thai naval base.

These  contracts or national strategy  20 year and 25 year agreements 'chinese style' hint hint will put these countries like here, pakistan, laos etc into a far more controlled center than the EU, they will

slowly allign their laws, immigration, taxes, currency, and defence, which all means Communist China dictating power, givng billions to the top of the country to gain their control, and flood the bottom of the country with even more waves of chinese immigrants, and plenty of defence bases

So all in all then, a move in the right direction for the higher echelons of Thai society.
