RTP deputy spokesman and spokesman for the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau Pol Col Krissana Pattanacharoen yesterday warned people using online dating sites like Tinder, Omi and Bumble that are very popular in Thailand.

As reported by Naew Na the spokesman said that such sites always had "two sides to the coin".

Yes, they were great in matching people but they were also a great opportunity for criminal elements to operate and take advantage of the vulnerable.

That could even be children, he said, with a suggestion that crimes committed on the apps could fall into the bracket of human trafficking that carries severe penalties in Thailand.

Krissana referred to two latest cases that have resulted in arrests and charges.

The first was a salesman in Samut Prakan who lured many university girls to hotels where he raped them.

The second was a case investigated by the Nakhon Chaisri police in Nakhon Pathom where a man lured a 13 year old to a hotel and sexually molested her.

He said that criminal elements were contacting people on the dating apps and after gaining their confidence through sweet chat arranged to meet them for sex.

They were often videoed in the act then blackmailed in order to provide sex on demand.

Or they would be extorted out of money with threats to reveal clips on social media.

People's human rights were being violated with this activity.

He issued a six point warning and action plan that called for people to check the credentials of others they chat with, not to reveal personal information, to take along a friend if you do decide to meet someone, look after youngsters in your care and monitor their online activity, don't believe something that appears too good to be true and call the cops if something untoward happens.

And Omi said to Bumble " have you eaten my apple crumble "

and Bumble said " no now watch you don't stumble " ..

Many scammers is not all you find now. More than usual are sex workers and women who are begging for help money But if wanting to meet they disappear. Most common replies are needing money to pay rent and out of work. Even chatted some foreigners with this scam. Problem is as long as their are men willing to believe everything read in chats or messages and stupid enough to send money. Their will be women or men losing as women to  try it. As for the 13 year old. Surely this is uncommon and the perv who met that kid needed to be arrested. Sickos like that would have preyed on kids locally not online just as easily. So can not blame the app for it and instead commend the police for learning about it. 90% of women I have chatted previously have been on the app to get money. Not seeking dates or love and not wanting to meet for real.

I've never understood why people resort to "dating websites". Are they really so socially inept?

It's the easiest way to meet hookers with all the bars and other 'places of entertainment' closed.

What, you though they were actually for dating?
