Bladder Cancer...

A friend of mine is diagnosed with Bladder Cancer.

Does anyone has any experience or know more with the above mentioned "Horizon Regional Cancer Center" at the Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok ?

He's thinking about having treatment there since the waiting lists for treatment and further detailed diagnosis in his homecountry is disastrous.

Any comments and input is much appreciated !

Thank you

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer but a second opinion and more tests showed I did not! SO tell him to get a second opinion before he lets anyone treat him.

It's a well regarded source of cancer treatment. Ditto Samitivej Hospital. There was a thread on this forum not too long back on Prostate cancer in which various urologists from both Samitivej and Bumrungrad were recommended by TV members, try searching through that. Any of these should be able to handle bladder cancer as well.

I have a personal preference for Samitivej over Bumrungrad as hospital per se, but it is the choice of doctor which matters most. Both hospitals have state of the art facilities for cancer treatment. With a serious problem like this I would recommend having consultations with several different doctors first before selecting the one who your friend is most comfortable with. Only consider docs with board certification in the west, that will ensure that the doctor is up to date and highly skilled as well as familiar with the western style of involving the patient in decision making.

Good luck.

  • 1 month later...

Just to inform that my friend had his urine bladder removed...as well as his prostate, due to cancer, last Monday.

They will (or rather, they did already) construct a new bladder from his colons and he will be able to urinate by means of 'manual pressure'.

The latter because the muscle, activating and controlling the urine bladder, is 'out of order' so to speak.

What I understand is that once a day he has to insert a special thin tube into his penis and 'pump' the remains of the urine from his new artificial bladder, made of his colons.

The consequences of the removal of the prostate however is obvious but he had 2 choices as what he described himself: sex or his life.

The operation was performed in his home country by a Specialist Professor.

Nevertheless...

:o

The wife is a patient of the Horizon centre and has been for a while. She only speaks very highly of the place and the staff. She can telephone her doctor whenever she needs to and the times we have gone there she has been seen either on time or before if we arrived early. I hope this has helped to assure your friend in some way.

Thank you for being considerate!

Maybe you didn't read all posts but he has been operated already, in his home country.

But your answer is much appreciated.

Thanks. :o

Hi I read your post and mywife originally had her treatment in the USA. She is recieving follow up treatments here. She would advise your friend to contact them and speak to them. They speak most languages there so it shouldnt be a problem. We hope your friend gets the treatment they need Cheers :o
