BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister is set to decide whether or not plans to welcome back foreign tourists will proceed as scheduled, when he heads a meeting of the economic committee set up to address the impact of the COVID-19 virus, tomorrow (June 4, 2021).

Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri outlined that the meeting will take place on Friday from 1:30pm as a video conference. It will be the second meeting of 2021 and will focus on progress made under the various economic aid programs, implemented to help citizens and businesses, with Rao Chana and soft loan programs to support operations. It will also review the current circumstances to decide if policies should be altered.

A key matter will be measures to stimulate investment by attracting high net worth foreign visitors to the country and reopening certain provinces to tourism.

Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew and Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Yuthasak Supasorn have already spoken to the Tourism Council of Thailand along with business operators and citizens in Phuket to hear their views on reopening to vaccinated tourists and not requiring quarantine. The plan has been dubbed the “Phuket Sandbox” and is slated to begin on July 1.

Yuthasak stated that all sides are ready to again open Phuket to fully vaccinated visitors to reinvigorate the province’s economy as it is nearing its vaccination target. The information is to be presented to the economic committee to inform its consideration of plans made back in March. The Tourism Authority of Thailand is to play a marketing role in the plan, targeting 129,000 tourists to Phuket over the three-month period from July to September; it also has medium and long term targets.

The only thing prime minister Pinocchio should be doing is welcoming vaccines from the United States which he is incapable of producing or procuring.

What's there to come to Thailand for?  Not much.
Unending new regulations and restriction as well as streets lined with shuttered shops where the owners have finally tossed in the towel and called it quits.
This should be TAT's new campaign:
Come To Depression Thailand
By the end of the year the public will understand that Prayut and friends have permanently killed the goose that laid the tourism eggs.

Businesses can't recover until tourism does,
and
tourism can't recover until businesses do.
Good luck ending that downward spiral into the toilet.

A great place to have the meeting, on the very bottom of the sea...

Just make it a Cool million, that's the ticket, and you can hand out a card like below with the $1 dollar first night to make them feel welcome.

Image result for a cool one million, thats the ticket

That rules out 90% of potential tourists then....."high net worth foreign visitors" where do they get these  ideas from?

Don't the Yanks have green card in some sort of lottery?.

Perhaps Thai Gov could do the same for farang covid jab.

129000 tourists for march?  You're aiming for the stars, that's for sure.

I'll be you 129,000 US dollars that it won't happen.  I'll also bet you you won't land on the moon either.

Yes the famous Visa lottery, sort of like the Permanent Resident for a foreigner here in Thailand where many apply but only a small amount are assigned every year.

Early polls indicate that Europeans will go to Southern Europe for holidays while half of the population will take holidays in their own country. Asia is no longer on the agenda.

Bozo flapping his gums again. Can’t even be honest about getting proper vaccines into Thailand that the majority would prefer to jab with. CM looks like a shambles for how many places are closed shut forever totally empty. The only thing he is driving is thailand into the ground.

covid 101, people from countries that have an advanced vaccine program with effective vaccines will only be visiting other countries that have an advanced vaccine program with effective vaccines, that leaves Thailand out of the game

Not so sure about this, unless there are explicit restrictions on where a person can or can't travel. Plenty of younger people, especially once vaccinated, just dgaf about Covid anymore.

I've just found a place in London selling their old open top tour buses, they can ship me one for ( I was surprised ) very little dosh, I can get her brother - read husband, to drive it, the Mrs can be the clippy, I have ordered a ticket machine, she can record the Thai commentary & me the English version, and we can do a slow crawl like they do in London around all the famous shuttered businesses.

Wot you fink ????

Do fully vaccinated tourists still need the 24/7 traceable wristbands for “monitoring” purposes?

the UK for example has restrictions on return - yes people can travel to Thailand but must quarantine for 14 days when they go back home - so it is not just about Thailand letting people in and their rules

10 days home quarantine on amber with pre paid tests. Although Thailand looks heading to the red list - mandatory 1750 quid for a naff hotel near heathrow thats usually good enough for a quick rest for 45 quid

OK, so that's say 43,000 tourists a month. Can they please show the evidence of that actually happening ? Can they show the 43,000 bums of flights booked ? Hotels booked by those same 43,000 bums ? No, thought not !

We all wish them well, but we all know reality from Jackanory

They will likely be counting stray cats, migrant workers, dogs, iguanas, etc as tourists.

I think the Prime Minister should concentrate on  vaccinating the Thai population . No real change to the tourist industry until that happens .
