PM to lead discussions on reopening tourism provinces

Featured Replies

A key matter will be measures to stimulate investment by attracting high net worth foreign visitors to the country and reopening certain provinces to tourism.

Just vaccinate the whole country and the rest will take care of itself... the whole nation is suffering.

High spending tourism isn't going to save the country if they don't come.

Thai businesses are closing daily nationwide not just in resort areas.

Let me get this straight. Thailand is in the midst of climbing Covid infections and deaths, and a vaccination program struggling to get underway, backed by suppliers struggling to meet their obligations and impeded by red tape at every turn... and they want to let tourists in?

Yuthasak stated that all sides are ready to again open Phuket to fully vaccinated visitors to reinvigorate the province’s economy as it is nearing its vaccination target.

In his opinion maybe... his target is somewhat lower than what it should be.

Allow in only those tourists with two vaccinations into a province where 60%-70% of locals have had only one jab and the rest nothing?

Not sure other nations will be happy about that.

The Prime Minister is set to decide whether or not plans to welcome back foreign tourists will proceed

Smells like something other than a democracy?

They will likely be counting stray cats, migrant workers, dogs, iguanas, etc as tourists.

Thats why they were so keen to stop those two US Marines at the airport recently.  It would have really knocked TAT's figures around enormously  ????????

So you have a general for a PM and an engineer for a health minister.  Shouldnt this type of discussion be lead by someone like Dr. Fauci, who actually understands the risks to the general public?

A great place to have the meeting, on the very bottom of the sea...

Yeah but one of them needs  to  open the window  once the doors are sealed and the meeting's  underway.

Don't do it. It will be a huge mistake. Without 90%+ vaccinated with two shots, including expats and at least Moderna available to those who will take nothing else, then stay with quarantine. You do not see Singapore, China or Hong Kong opening without quarantine.

What's there to come to Thailand for?  Not much.
Unending new regulations and restriction as well as streets lined with shuttered shops where the owners have finally tossed in the towel and called it quits.
This should be TAT's new campaign:
Come To Depression Thailand
By the end of the year the public will understand that Prayut and friends have permanently killed the goose that laid the tourism eggs.

Businesses can't recover until tourism does,
and
tourism can't recover until businesses do.
Good luck ending that downward spiral into the toilet.

Very well said.

If they have to quarantine on their return home too the number of arrivals they expect may be a bit off.

He is the last person in the world who should be leading this meeting. By leading this meeting, it is a near confession that the re-opening is going to fail. Everything he touches at this point, fails. He cannot do anything right. It is better for the powers who really have the control to acknowledge this, and push him aside. Keep him behind the curtains, at all time.

The hype over opening Phuket to tourists seems to be slowing down, is reality starting to kick in????

It's not surprising that the TAT's countdown for Phuket's grand opening started before obtaining the PM's approval.

My educated guess is that they won't scrap the sandbox plan altogether, but they will make some last-minute changes to make it less attractive for many. Such as having to stay on Phuket for the first 14 days instead of 7 as planned.

No change there then !

Fauci is one of nuttiest cranks out there!!. Mr Prayut has even got more brains than that fool and thats saying something????

So, what's the over/under on Phuket Sandbox opening 1st July?

I think they will delay at least until 1st August...but I really hope they go ahead on 1st July...

Not that old chestnut again...... Boring, do they not realize it aint gonna happen, regardless of how much they talk about it.

I think it allows them to use big numbers that sound good in their revenue forecasts ...

The P.M. has to open the country to double jabbed tourists with the appropriate mandatory covid insurance .  Why ?   because a large % of the country are suffering by way of loss of earnings , losing their businesses , losing their properties and going hungary . There is no furlough scheme , safety net or financial government help happening .

Unless there is something beneficial and positive announced soon to help the depressed Thai folk , I fear that things could turn a lot worse in Thailand and that is besides the pandemic . The military government seem hell bent at becoming more and more unpopular by defending their economy being paramount .

Looks like the much touted sandbox has the usual gouging Bolt-on in the form of now not 7 days and move on its now 14 days in a SHA approved hotel only and guess what the prices are All 28 ASLQ/ASQ Hotels in Phuket (14 Day Packages)  what a clusters this has turned into again????

Is that official  14 days quarantine ?   Just as well close swampy

The litter box will open but will be 14 days of your own dreams called nightmares before you can leave the island......

Hey in the USA they are doing all sorts of stuff to entice the people to get a vaccine. even in Virginia

they are giving out guns. You know in a gun starved country like the USA, more guns have to be given out.

What a crazy world it is.

Geezer

So is that if the vaccine does not work and you contract Covid you have the option of shooting yourself ????? Meanwhile perhaps the buffoon Czar here could employ similar incentive schemes. Perhaps if you volunteer for the shots you could get free medical treatment when having an accident travelling to the hospital on a motorbike or car. Two traveling together, with both getting injured, means an automatic hospital room upgrade.
