Chiang Mai: 5000+ foreigners have registered for vax - "don't wait for other vaccines" advises community group

Covid International Community Support Chiang Mai said on Facebook that 5,406 foreigners had registered for Covid-19 vaccinations.

They advised people to take the first opportunity to be vaccinated to start building up immune systems.

They said: "Don't hold out waiting for other vaccines".

The message was "let's get vaccinated" and "restore the health and economy of Chiang Mai".

Meanwhile TNN reported that the more elderly in the community were doing just that at the Luang Ratchapreuk Park yesterday, the first day of mass vaccinations.

There were many over 60s there and people with underlying health conditions. Nurses were taking pictures for social media to encourage everyone to get vaccinated.

One was Tiam Pankham, 83, who was brought by her daughter La-Or to get her jab.

La-Or said her mum who suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and other ailments was reticent at first but after chats with doctors felt reassured and was now excited about the prospect.

Some of the elderly turned up with families, some alone but there was a spirit of community, a feeling that this was a good thing to do.

In addition yesterday 3,450 hotel and restaurant employees and those responsible for giving jabs were also inoculated.

Across 25 districts the media said that 7 people were vaccinated. This was obviously a typo though it was unclear whether they meant to say 7,000 or 70,000, notes Thaivisa.

The aim is to vaccinate 70% of the population to achieve so called herd immunity ahead of opening the province to tourism in October, said TNN.

It`s all rather pointless if they do not have enough vaccine supplies ????

What makes you think it was a typo?  ????

"don't wait for other vaccines"

So sorry, but Yes…. I am waiting for other ones.

Now the question is…..when will foreigners 60 years of age and older begin receiving inoculations?

They already are going for vaccine shaming.

"Get your vaccine right now or else you'll be responsible for Thailand not reaching "herd immunity."  No waiting!!!  Bad farangs!!!  We know what is right for you.  You do not know what is right for you.  So do the right thing.  Get your jab immediately.  Turn off your brain and roll up your sleeve!"

I think they're in for a shock when then hit the up-country villages.  I don't think vaccine shaming will break through the distrust.  Time will tell. At the end of the day I expect Thailand to go full-Monty and mandate vaccines or jail.

There may well be 5,406 foreigners registered in Chiang Mai province, but without appointment dates being given this announcement is just another propaganda stunt.

According to the Huffpost there are about 40,0001 expats in Chiang Mai province, so given the number mentioned in the title of the post, this only accounts for about 12.5% of the expats in CM province.  Or put another way, 87.5% have yet to register.  Hummm  ????

I'm in the social security system, registered but at the speed they do nothing I probably need another vaccine  in a couple years when I turn 60 and start all over again ????
