jackfadd Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Hello ,,, I have following queries I got work permit today which is valid just for 6 months.. Can this 6 months work permit be extended to one year or more?? If yes, what are the formalities?? How are the companies normally apply for work permit?? Will they specify the number of years or just submit the candidates details to the labour dept?? Iam jsut confused. Different people are telling different things so i just thought of asking immigration experts of thai forumn.. Is work pemit depend on visa or visa depend on work permit? Which department holds more weightage ,, the reason why Iam asking this question is because the person who took me to the labour dept told me that the visa depends on work permit...Is it true?? What are the formalities for the depenedent visa?? Can my company apply for the dependent visa??? Pls help me... Thanks and Regards Jack
Tywais Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 At least for me I have to get the visa extension stamp before I can go to the labor department for the work permit stamp and the work permit stamp follows the expiration of the visa extension, not the other way around.
dingdongrb Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Could someone tell me after one obtains the needed nonimmigrant visa how long does it usually take to obtain a work permit?
Sunbelt Asia Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I got work permit today which is valid just for 6 months.. Can this 6 months work permit be extended to one year or more?? If yes, what are the formalities??Yes. If you get a extension of stay, this work permit will then be extended for the same time period you get the extension of stay permit for. If you have a non immigrant visa, the work permit will terminate on the date the visa expires even if its a 6 month or one year work permit. For instance if you have a 90 day stamp, you'll see your work permit expires within the next 90 days. You then will need to revalidate your work permit to get the additional time. How are the companies normally apply for work permit?? Will they specify the number of years or just submit the candidates details to the labour dept?? Its the Labor Dept discretion. For Asians they almost always give them 6 months at first and then extend this to a year after the 6 months even if you do not have the extension of stay permit . The Labor Dept wants to make sure the person is filing personal taxes monthly. Iam jsut confused. Different people are telling different things so i just thought of asking immigration experts of thai forumn.. Is work pemit depend on visa or visa depend on work permit? Which department holds more weightage ,, the reason why Iam asking this question is because the person who took me to the labour dept told me that the visa depends on work permit...Is it true??Depends on the terminology. In order to apply for a work permit you must have a non immigrant visa. In order to apply for the extension of stay based on business, you must have a work permit. What are the formalities for the depenedent visa?? Can my company apply for the dependent visa??? When they apply for the extension of stay based on business, they can apply for the dependent visa for your family. The company must meet many criteria for the application to be accepted. For most start up companies in the first year of trading, its a impossibility since October 2006. www.sunbeltasiagroup.com

all4real Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Another question about work permit. For someone with multi-entry non immi "o" visa but does not have 1 year extension permit, and has to do 90 day border run. If he applies for work permit, does the work permit expires on the visa expiration date or the 90 day stamp expiration time? Does he need to revalidate the work permit or visa once travels outside the country and back? Let say he wants to get 1 year extension of stay but no qualify based on non-immi "o" for 40k monthly income, can he get a non-immi "b" and qualify for 1 year extension based on business? Can someone has both non-immi "o" and non-immi "b" coexist? Does the embassy issuing the visa or the immigration cancel your the other visa? Could someone shed a light on this? Thanks
