Talk News Online reported that the deputy governor of Phetchaburi province Ekkarat Nakhakhong and health officials had received a request from the mayor of Tha Yang district Nareumon Kitphuangsuwan to buy 15,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine.

They granted the request but asked that traders and others doing business in the area are also vaccinated.

The vaccine is being procured with funds from the Tha Yang coffers from the Chulabhorn Royal Academy in Bangkok.

They have started registration for the vaccine of choice and plan to get millions of doses.

Thaivisa notes that this case may create an interesting precedent for local councils, fed up with waiting for government vaccine supplies, to circumvent the process.

Though TNO did not say when the supplies would actually be available to the folks in Tha Yang, just that they would be happy with the efforts of their local leadership.
