U.S. directs 55 millions of COVID-19 shots to Latin America, Africa, Asia

Featured Replies

(Reuters) – The White House laid out a plan on Monday to share 55 million U.S. COVID19 vaccine doses globally, with roughly 75% of the doses allocated to Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa through the COVAX international vaccine-sharing program.

Of the 55 million remaining doses, some 41 million will be shared through COVAX, the White House said, with approximately 14 million going to Latin America and the Caribbean, some 16 million to Asia, and roughly 10 million to Africa.

US Embassy Bangkok, hello,  are you reading this? You should dedicate enough vaccine for the 40,000 or so American citizens living in Thailand. We are veterans and tax payers. It is absurd that we should have to wait for the Thais to vaccinated before US citizens. We did pay for the vaccine you are donating to Thailand with our taxes.

These 55 MM doses are AZ (out of a total of 80 MM approved for internation distribution/donation), currently held udenr review by the U.S. FDA I think.

Thailand is not part of COVAX.

Some of the remainder may make their way to Thailand? A bit unclear.

We have donated a lot of cash, $30 MM USD directly to Thailand for Covid relief.

And there are a lot of smaller efforts of help from the U.S. to Thailand.

I know of some Americans/NGO organizing a big effort to deliver food and supplies across the Kingdom to families in need.

Other foreign nationals are doing the same, locally, regionally and nationally.
