Fully-vaccinated travelers with Canadian status—citizens, permanent residents and First Nations [I have not met a North American Indian, India daeng, in Thailand in 30 years here!]—can enter Canada sans quarantine 14 days after their second dose after July 5.

Pre-entry rquirements, registration with ArriveCAN prior to travel, negative PCR test in country of origin & on arrival and not exhibit symptoms are still in place. Unvaccinated minors & others will still be required to hotel quarantine.

“Travellers can receive their vaccine in any country but must provide a certified translation confirming their vaccination status if proof of vaccination is not provided in English or French.

“The Government of Canada will accept translations that were produced by a certified translator whose certification can be confirmed by a stamp or membership number with a professional translation association.”

Accepted vaccines:

  • Pfizer (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2)
  • Moderna (mRNA-1273)
  • AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria, AZD1222, Covishield)
  • Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) - single dose

Vaccines not currently accepted for fully vaccinated status in Canada:

  • Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C)
  • Cansino (Convidecia, Ad5-nCoV)
  • Gamalaya (Sputnik V, Gam-Covid-Vac)
  • Sinopharm (BBIBP-CorV, Sinopharm-Wuhan)
  • Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc)
  • Vector Institute (EpiVacCorona)
  • Other

That ‘Other’ includes WHO’s Covax-approved

CanSinoBIO

Novavax

Curevac

Sanofi Pasteur

This may be more inclusive in future depending on clinical & real-world studies to determine efficacy.

First-world Canada had the tech but did not bother to set up licencing & production manufacturing. The country was scrambling to procure vaccines up until recently.

Maybe, just maybe, Thailand will get to pull up its Trudeau socks...

I can't afford to live in Canada, but Thailand is no problem at all.

I did enjoy a few ski-ing trips to Banff and Jasper though.

And visiting some relatives in London, Ontario.

Still have to jump through several hoops and loops. Ok, maybe it takes away a hurdles. Not going to Canada anytime soon though.
