The first phase of human trials of Thailand’s vaccine candidate, jointly developed domestically by the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) and the Tropical Medicine Faculty of Mahidol University, has produced a promising human response in the volunteers, according to Prof. Dr. Pannee Pitisutthitham, acting head of the vaccine centre of the faculty.

 

Speaking via the Mahidol Channel, Professor Pannee said the vaccine candidate, called HXP-GPOVac, which is an inactivated virus type vaccine, was developed from a viral precursor, obtained from PATH, a global health organisation based in the United States, and was used in first phase of human trials among volunteers in March.

 

All 210 volunteers in the trials are in good health, free from Hepatitis B and C and are not suffering from an immune deficiency. The volunteers were separated into six groups, each was injected with differing dosages of vaccine, in order to assess the appropriate dosage to be used once approved. Some of the volunteers were given placebo instead, as a control measure.

Thai COVID Vaccine Stimulates Strong Immunity in Phase1 Trial

 

 

BANGKOK, July 1 (TNA) – A research has found that a COVID-19 vaccine jointly developed by Mahidol University and the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) stimulated strong immunity.

 

The university through its Mahidol Channel reported that the HXP-GPOVac vaccine proved to stimulate strong immunity among volunteers during its first stage of human trials.

 

HXP-GPOVac is an inactivated vaccine.

I am interested to know how Siam Bioscience will help the situation.  Is my interest illegal?

I, for one, am skeptical.   When it comes to scientific research, Thailand has a less than stellar record.   Back in 2003 there were trials done on an HIV vaccine.   The trials lasted until 2009 and they were not successful.   At some point, Thailand decided to 'go it alone' and they would proceed with the study using their own methodology.   

 

The vaccine trials were the largest ever conducted with 16,000++ participants.   The vaccine had some efficacy, but not enough for licensure.   Thailand's attitude appeared to basically disregard the science.   That is scary for how much credibility to give a study of a Covid vaccine.   

 

I hope it is successful; I hope it works against the variants, but again, I suspect they are late to the party.   

 

If Siam Bioscience cannot produce enough of well known and approved AZ, what they plan to do with home grown drug? gave it to CP to manufacture?

Promising results means no volunteers died, yet. And if they do it would be a coincidence.

 

Awaiting some sort of publication of these 'promising' results.

This Mahidol vaccine is manufactured using convetional means, grown in eggs, which, we're told is done here reliably and in high volumes.
