Non-b working visa terminated. How can I stay in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I wish to leave my job which would result in the termination of my work permit and non b working visa. Is it possible to remain in Thailand as a tourist / student or will I have to leave the country if my current visa is cancelled?

Many Thanks

Your visa isn't canceled, just your extension. But you can apply for another extension.

If you don't qualify for any of the "standard" extensions, then there is currently the option to apply for a 60 day covid extension.

As Jack wrote above, at the current time you should be able to get a 60-day Covid extension. To assess what options you might have long term, we need further information (age? any Thai spouse/children? intention to get another job? financial status?)  There are many potential ways you may be able to stay, some a bit questionable and involving the assistance of agents.

Thank you for your information really appreciate it. I am 25 and do not intend to get another job. I would just hope to stay and live on my savings here for the next couple of months maybe up to one year. I do not qualify for any standard extensions no Thai spouse or children. I happy to hear suggestions of visas you think may be a potential way to stay after this 60 days. And if you think I would be safe to get this 60 day visa and arrange another suitable visa during these 60 days as I do not want to reach the end of the 60 days and then have to leave because I cant get an extension or another visa. I had looked at the student muay thai visa as 1 possible option.
Thank you very much.

At the age of 25, I assume that your savings are modest, not enough to support you for the rest of your life. Also, in my experience, young guys in Thailand who are not working tend to exhaust their financial sources a lot faster than they believed possible.

Start by deciding what you are going to do long term. I am not against the idea of enjoying life for a bit while young, but you should be determined not to become one of those who self destructs, ending up destitute and on overstay in Thailand, reliant on family and friends to possibly rescue you. Work out right now how much you need to have remaining of your savings when you leave your Thailand fairy tale to rejoin real life. When you get to that point, act responsibly.

An extension of stay to study (muay Thai or a Thai language course) is a possibility. You could probably stay here for about a year that way. Another possibility, with the aid of an agent, would be a slightly dodgy volunteer extension. In either case, make sure you understand the total cost involved. With an education extension, that might well (in addition to tuition) involve extensions every 90 days for more than the official 1,900 baht each time.

Anyway, I wish you luck. You only live once, and I certainly had periods around your age where I was not totally fixated on a long term life plan, but just taking advantage of the opportunity to have a good time.

Thank you sir I appreciate the information and the advice. I know this number in my savings and will depart once it is reached I have future work plans back home just want to enjoy my time here until then.

With regards the the volunteer extension that you mentioned where can I find more information on this or how could I get in touch with an agent? Thank you.

The financial aspect is the main point here.

Yes you can stay with some help from an agent but why not go home, earn some real money & then come back for a holiday once you can enjoy it with everything open again.

If you are staying because you are involved with someone, the longer you leave your departure the more it will hurt.

If you had been 60 years old on a pension the answer wold have been different

Best of Luck

Not involved with someone I only got here 2 months ago so not ready to go home just yet. Finance is ok to support myself for at least 6 months to a year so that is why I would like to stay on. I had been working at home saving with the intention of doing this that was always the plan.

The issue I have is I am teaching in a very rural location and it is not quite working out so wish to terminate employment and relocate but this will affect the visa I currently have so trying to find out about other options that enable me to stay post 60 day covid visa. Any information you could offer on these agents would be appreciated I am not familiar with them. Thank you

Why do you not try to find another job somewhere else in Thailand as teacher?
