BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC) is coordinating with health insurance-related agencies to curb a rapid increase in incidents of insurance fraud.

OIC’s secretary-general Suthiphon Thaveechaiyagarn said the Consumer Protection and Insurance Participation Committee has approved three additional measures to curb potentially fraudulent claims.

The three measures include the strict enforcement of relevant laws, publicizing law enforcement and examples and criminal complaints against offenders who incite others to follow them. The OIC will also cooperate and share information with the National Health Security Office, the Social Security Office and the OCPB, to monitor inappropriate behavior.

Mr. Suthiphon said offenders may be subject to penalties for disseminating false information or advertising the sale of illegal products, adding that the OIC will coordinate with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) and the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), to detect and prosecute offenders.

it sounds as it is insurance fraud committed by the insurance companies, and not by the insured.

Interesting take, usually it's the opposite. According to my friend, who owns small insurance company, fraud is 39% of claims in her company

Thailand's Office of the Insurance Commission. There must be hundreds of these. I guess they're all on the payroll of public accounts. Must cost the country a fortune. Plus try coordinating with this lot:

Consumer Protection and Insurance Participation Committee

National Health Security Office

Social Security Office

Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB)

Ministry of Digital Economy and Society

Food and Drug Administration (TFDA)

Good luck with fraud detection there! Buried alive.
