DefaultName
I brush teeth, cook rice, pasta, potatoes, all in tap water. So eggs, yes.
Almer
I wish now i had taken a photo, 3 months go i changed the bum gun due to poor output, new gun all's well, having nothing else to do i thought a trip inside it to see what makes it tick would fill an hour up, after destroying it to get inside i was shocked it was full of green algae hence the poor output. So 3 months on and new gun this time with remove able nozzle has poor output, yep you guessed full of green algae, so would i use tap water for poached eggs, nope. Our water comes straight from the mains not from a domestic tank.

I bought one too, but from Rimping. No need to use water at all, except a drop in the container.
IAMHERE
I know of some people that crack the egg into a sealable sandwich bag and then poach it. Sprayed some nonstick inside the sandwich bag first they did.

There's also a technique where you put a double layer of clingfilm into a ramekin, crack the egg into that, then lift up the edges of the clingfilm and twist them. That should protect the egg from any nasties in the water. It also produces a very neat looking egg.
