Theres a fishing supplies place next door to The Dukes on Chaing Mai-Lamphun Rd..

There are 2 tackle shops on the road that drops south from the south side of the moat - not named on my map but numbered as Route 108. Anyhow, if you're driving west along the outer moat road, it's the first major road left after Wua Lai Road and it's the last major road left before the left turn into Mahidol Road heading to Airport Plaza etc.

They're almost opposite each other - and the bigger of the two is on the left.......... huge range of rods, reels, lures etc etc.

I know that one too, Steve. It's on the road that alot of people cut directly across from inside the moat when nobody's around. Pretty sure it's Thippanet road, and is named so for the OLD market that sits at the end of it, just before the wacky 3 way intersection by the new scooter shop. The place I always see is right there on the left with a sign in English too I think. It's the left turn after Wuwa Lai, and before the corner moat road that leads to the new Rimping and Airport Plaza.

Also Skoperism (what's a skoperism anyway?), you'll find that tackle is cheap here, and if you like, when you do a visa run to Mae Sai some time, they sell lots of rods over the border for super cheap, right out of China. Alot of it pretty good. If you know your equipment you ought to be able to find an ok set up. I do advise at least two different rods of course- and if you can, 5 is even better, right ? Because terrain differs alot here, you may at times need a stiffer shorter rod, and then other times need a longer one for better casting distance. I use my shorter rod most of the times, but if I go do a catfish tourney on the weekend with any of my Thai friends the longer rod is helpful to get distance and accuracy alongside so many other fishermen.

And hey people ! Yes, fishermen talk about their rods, their rod lengths, and stiffness all the time. We know how it sounds. 55555

Many Shops around, the 2 metioned above (larger one a bit expensive) Or carry on down the hang dong rd 4 about 8k second intersection after outer ring rd just under foot bridge good prices and good range. many lures, try a bit of snake head fishing at the dam, or pop to my place near Doi Kham 4 pladuk and plasuay.

The best tackle shop in Chiang Mai is probably Mata Tackle Shop on the Sankamphen road. It is opposite the entrance to the road that takes you down to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. There is a video rental shop next to it.

Chiangmai Pro Fishing - inside road of south moat near SE corner next to the tools shops between Chiangmai Gate and the corner

Or opposite Wat Chedi Luang entrance on same road

Also in the smaller of the two Wororot Market main buildings, in the little "alley" theat parallels the road between the main buildings, but is inside the one nearer the river - several shops in there.
