PHUKET: The old Phuket Prison on Bamrong Rd in Phuket Town opened today (Aug 11) as the “Covid Care Center” (CCC) for Muang District, one of four locations on the island where people who test positive for COVID-19 by only an antigen test are now required to stay for an as-yet undefined period of time despite not suffering any symptoms of infection.

The news was announced during a live broadcast this morning presided by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew.

Joining the the governor were Phuket Public Health Office (PPHO) Chief Kusak Kukiattikoon, Phuket Vice Governors Pichet Pananpong and Piyapong Choowong, along with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket office Director Nanthasiri Ronnasiri and other high-level provincial officers.

Another "PR" own goal.

"Test positive for COVID and be sent to (ex)Prison"

There must be many hotels lying empty at the moment that they could use instead!  It would also give some money to the owners and staff.

I am amazed by how many times these last couple years I think,

'Wow, you can't even make this stuff up!'

Is it just me, or are others feeling the same way?

I'm surprised only by how unsurprised I am that the covid prisons are now actual prisons

This news should make its way to the international press.

Welcome to the sandbox with the chance of being kept in prison ......beyond belief!

Would you not think that a man of this stature (in Thailand) would have had the sense to be more circumspect about something so obviously insensitive?  How oblivious can a government leader be?

The Phuket branch of the "Bangkok Hilton". Welcome to the sandbox. We hope you enjoy your stay.

I guess this is one way to ensure that nobody wants to get tested. Magically, case numbers will come down.

Pats on the back and congratulations all round.

Getting more like Alcatraz every day. I'm sure there's a film in it somewhere. Island of Doctor Moreau 2?

Sandbox requires PCR testing, this is for antigen test positive only.

So it iS basically illegal to now to catch the virus...they will kick you in a prison for your 'crime'.
