BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has expected a second batch of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for healthcare professionals in 77 provinces to arrive on Saturday 14 August.

DDC Director-General Dr Opas Karnkawinpong said 257,200 doses of the US-made vaccine should arrive in the provinces no later than tomorrow, adding that a total of 700,000 doses had been distributed with the first batch of 442,800 doses delivered last Wednesday and Thursday.

He said the vaccine allotment is based on the Public Health Ministry’s database, MOPH-IC, for vaccinations from 28 February - 22 June. At the beginning of the vaccine rollout, medical personnel, both frontline and support groups, received two shots of Sinovac.

Dr Opas insisted the department had not hoarded the vaccine for VIPs and urged people who have information about any mishandling of the inoculations to contact the Public Health Ministry.

Not that any of the very late arriving vaccines is not a plus - keeping the positive vibes flowing.

In time, things will look much brighter - maybe.

The deeper cynic in me might suggest that Thai authorities had amble time and enough political pull to have secured measurable doses of AZ, Pfizer and Moderna months ago. Yet, the usual Thai manner of authoritarian ineptitude and simple mangled management became the fate of the society.

Get over it. If this momentum continues and we get the mass majority of 60+ plus those with existing conditions which account for over 90% of hospitalizations and death vaccinated  then the other healthy 10% can be more or less treated like the common flu with ample hospital space. Come January with under 50K died it will likely be hailed a great success compared to the majority of other countries that lost 5 to 10 times as many.

A decent vaccine arrives courtesy of the USA well done.

What have the Junta done bar filling their pockets where all procurements must have incentives, fighter jets ordered before decent vaccines, still only the most miniscule of testing because the real situation would highlight their astonishing negligence and total disregard for the welfare of the populace.

May Karma dish them out their just deserts.

This is part of the initial donation of 1.5 mm doses, which arrived on 30 June, I presume?

Has anyone heard anything about the second batch, said to be 1 mm?

Honestly, the amount of energy expended by the various regime functionaries talking about 1.5 mm Pfizer doses is breathtaking. One assumes they have nothing else to talk about? Other than vaccine "orders" of course.

The momentum in Thailand is not so great.... but even when the high number are reached, ie percentages of adults fully vaccinated, that does not mean we are done and dusted... it is simply move on to the next phase.

AS per the UK, with a fully vaccinated percentage of 76%  of adults, it still has daily new infections of >30,000 rising, with testing levels of 800,000/day, daily deaths still around 100, hospital admissions of >700 daily (these are surely symptomatic), over 5800 patients currently in hospital with 880 on ventilation.

Is this Thailand's destiny?

How many of those hospital admissions are unvaccinated... if you can get vaccinated and refuse for personal reasons... then get hospitalized... sorry but that is on you.  I do however have sympathy that the nurses and doctors, who are already overworked, have to suffer from other people's stupidity...

I read somewhere 40% of those being hospitalized were  vaccinated, and 15% fully.

Here.

Numbers may also include people who are hospitalized for symptoms more related to co-morbidities than covid, while testing positive. I only wish to point out high percentages of fully vaccinated adults is far from the end of it.

American taxpaying expats in Isaan still waiting….and waiting…

Medpark Bangkok and BPH Bangkok (via Thaiintervac.com) are the only places I've heard of that are actively responding to the two schemes for farang with appointments (thaiintervac and expatvac). In the case of BPH Bangkok an Isaan American friend has an appointment.

Yup.  I went to America to get jabbed and have 2 Pfizers protecting me at the moment.  We are in our final week of quarantine and will be free soon.  The shots were free but the cost to get them was considerable and at the time of our departure the situation here looked pretty gloomy for Expats getting a decent vaccination.  Along the way we made a vacation out of it and visited friends and family and had a day at Fisherman's Wharf in San Fran.

it's worrying that this is newsworthy. the uk, with similair poulation size, was vaccinating this number, and often considerably more, day after day. for months.
