Despite the dire state of the pandemic in Thailand with record daily highs, the Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Yutthasak Suphasorn told Sanook that his target for foreign tourists before the end of the year is still one million.

 

Yutthasak was putting a brave face on Thailand's opening plans after the CCSA approved what is now being called "7+7 Phuket Extension".

 

This is allowing double vaxed foreigners to visit Phuket then other islands or areas of their choice in the second week of their stay.

 

Yutthsak said that the pandemic needs to be brought under control but insisted his target was one million foreigners with high season from October still part of his rhetoric. 

 

This despite the first month of the Phuket Sandbox getting 14,000 visitors and only about ten a day going to Koh Samui.

 

To hit his target by December 31st ASEAN NOW did the math based on 25,000 having visited already.

 

It will need to be 7,442 a day.

Putting on a brave face, and stating an inability is what the man is doing.  Wishful thinking on his part.  I do understand his frustration in meeting his own goals.  I once told my friends I would have a million dollars by the time I was 30.  Instead I had earned a million dollars over a 10 year period but had nothing to show for it as I had spent it all to sustain life as a family man with 3 children........fast forward 25 years and my Crypto portfolio showed 1 million plus, but then as we know sometimes what is on paper is not actually available to put in ones hand, just like TAT Governor Suphasorn's target of 1 million foreign tourists.........My view of course.

But do they know what tourists are?? I think everybody who steps out of an airplane, cross the border is counted as a tourist.. Besides I have seen on TV how they teach math for Prathom and yes that can be the reason too that they can't read the numbers..

47.58 x 10 = 475.80

47.58x100= 4,758.00

47.58x1000=47,580.00

 

 

Drop the COE, PCR, Quarantine and it will be easy. Keep them all and you'll be lucky to see 5-10,000 a month. Thailand just shooting itself in its foot now, allowing migrants but not fully vaccinated tourists.

You used the wrong calculator. 

 

TAT can improve number of foreign arrivals by simplify sandbox schemes into one scheme with minimal restrictions the Samui plus scheme is ridiculous and should be scraped immediately and merged into the Phuket Sandbox which allows greater freedoms such as car hire and unrestricted  travel  within the Island. This would facilitate arrivals through Phuket Airport and those wishing to visit Samui accomdated by direct flights from Phuket to Samui and vice versa. This would attract Russians who have traditionally holidayed in Samui

Just reckon they should sack the overly complex sandbox, 7-7 nonsense and just allow anyone that has been fully vaccinated in. Sure, still a risk but minimal, especially in the current lockdown. This would be aimed at allowing Thais abroad to return more so than tourists.

I think he is confusing Tourist with refugees, as there is and will be many running from Afghanistan. It would be nice if Thailand would help some of these desperate  people out. Instead of warring about the Tourist all the time.

well I would be one of them.  I have 60 days to kill before my next contract job.  Normally I would already be on a plane to Thailand for a fine holiday.  But The timelines just don't work well, between either doing the sandbox or just a regular ASQ.  Two weeks quarantine takes too much of a bite out of my time, and the prices and costs and paperwork, advance planning going back and forth as plane or hotel schedules change, etc..  If they streamline things, I go

My daughter has canceled her trip to Thailand for December….

So will be 999.999 Tourists ????.

TAT seems to stand for talking absolute tosh !!

Can they just say nothing for one day and give the clown show a day off ! ????????????????

I'm sure that the statements that keep coming out from TAT are purely to stir-up the readers of Thai Visa/Asean Now !

 

I don't know who Sanook is but I can imagine TAT spokesmen laughing and saying "And he believed it!"

Just so sad that Khun Yutthasak seems to be such a lousy shooter.

 

I guess target practice would be in order.
