My wife is going to apply for an EEA Family Permit for the UK (I am German). I wonder if we need the help of an agency and if so which ones would you recommend and which agencies should we avoid?

Thanks

Hi Lagrange,

I don't know too much about the specific visa you are applying for or even your current circumstances, but what I would say is do your homework on any agency you use in Thailand.

It is worth checking out Key Visa in Pattaya. I used this guy and he is very good. He Won't rip you off and will give you excellent advice. He also offers a "no visa, no pay" service and follows through with his promise. Give him a call or go down to Pattaya to see him.

Hope this helps.

Unregistered agencies have an awful reputation, if you consider you have to use one, ensure you use an OISC registered Agency.

If you require help sourcing one , just have a look around this sub-forum, if you struggle to find one ,I can recommend one.

Thanks

Hi,

I guess at the end it all depends on what you is your situation (married? in-law?) and what are your skills with legal-English :-)

I did my application for my de-facto permit in Australia (I'm Italian and my gf is Thai) because it was straight forward (and we were both here with a job, accommodation and plenty of evidences we were de-facto).

For my gf's family permit in the UK we hired scouse. It did cost a bit..but you know....I'm Italian, she is 'only' my gf and more important I don't have a job or neither an accommodation in the UK. He did a great job putting together all the information we had...

My advice is to skip all the doggy agencies in bkk and find someone that is OISC certified...try to email scouse..He might be able to help you...

(Ok...I get my 20% commission from scouse for each new client I refer)

I agree with the above, if you are going to use a 3rd party use someone that is reliable.

The EEA Family Permit should be straight forward. Your marriage license, her and your passport and evidence that you exercise your treaty rights. But then you are dealing with Bangkok so add:

  • a coverletter explaining when you met, how often you visit her and contact each other
  • Evidence of contacts in both ways
  • Pictures of the wedding ceremony
  • anything else that can show you have a real relationship depending on how long you have been married

Then it should even in Bangkok be a straight forward case (however I have seen some strange ones lately pass by where they went back to the "first intend" rule it seemed)

Thank you all for your replies. I decided to go with the scouser, as he seemed to be the most competent person I have talked to about this case. I tried one agency in Bangkok which seemed to be quite professional from their advertisements in the Bangkok Post, though after meeting them in person I was not convinced. Some of the information they gave me was simply false.....

Good choice Lagrange this would have been my recommendation, as for the agencies in Bangers it isn't the first time people have heard that.

Good Luck

Just a quick update: my wife has been issued the family permit and will be joining me here in the UK next week, we couldn’t be happier.

I am really happy with the service provided by Davis Khan Immigration Advisers, and can only recommend everyone using their advice. Originally I wanted to hire an agency based in Bangkok, but after one meeting with Siam Legal (which seemed quite professional from their website) I decided otherwise as some of the information I have been given was simply wrong.

You see advice from this forum of whom to contact really does what it says on the tin, sorry Mr Boj. :o

Not a great idea, they can be a little economical with the truth, as they say.

Good luck
