The previous health insurance requirement for non OA visa holders (list of authorized Thai insurers, medical coverage of minimum inpatient 400,000 + outpatient 40,000) has been replaced.

From now, the visa holders must have a health insurance covering Covid-19 treatment, to at least US$100,000 (3 million baht), and all insurers are accepted.

We were only informed at the beginning of October, and the text is very brief. The precise conditions for the application of this regulation are still unclear.

At this stage, it seems to be a quite good news because:

- the previous regulation caused many difficulties when renewing visas.

- visa holders who travel outside Thailand will no longer have to buy two insurances, one for the visa, and one to return to Thailand.

-it imposes a more reasonable minimum medical coverage, knowing that very serious hospitalizations quickly cost several millions of Baht.

On the other hand, this mandatory coverage of 3M, that is to say about 7 times greater than the previous one, will cost more. I am afraid many retirees with modest incomes will not be able to purchase this insurance…
