I know enough that the 40 million baht the insurance company has ready for you is not always as it seems . Make a claim and they will often say goodbye . Like you wisely said its your choice . I have good health and that is good fortune . I am 68 years of age and have decided to use my good fortune for the future . Good luck to yah. Good health is good fortune, however just because one is healthy doesn't mean all of a sudden one can't have a heart attack for example and then what, oh Mr you have narrow arteries and have a clot, you need to have a stent put in, cost 300,000-500,000 baht, or Pneumonia just landed on your door step, lung collapses, oh Mr you need stay here for 2 weeks so we can take care you, cost 1.5 million baht, good fortune to me is, just take this private insurance Mastercard and knock yourself out after I have spoken with my insurer. You might be right, however I vet all insurance providers by going through a broker and read every policy thoroughly, and the way I see it is that it is a contract, and as long as I follow the rules of the contract, I shouldn't have a problem and they pay up. The above said, in all my years of being insured for various insurances, house, car, health, have NEVER had a problem, that said, it could be that most don't read the policies, just sign the dotted line and think that's it, well it's not, there are certain criteria and rules that have to be adhered, if not, that can make the contract null and void, so as I said before, if you cross your T's and dot your i's, of one having a problem are ZERO, that is unless the insurance company is one of those fly by night ones that no one has heard of. I'm good and without cover, I would feel naked, it's insurance to me so that I don't have dip into my savings/investments which keep me enjoying the lifestyle I choose to live, and I can't have that taken away from me. Also I would suggest that they pay more times than not. Edited September 19, 2021 by 4MyEgo 2
brianthainess
This is about an MRI scan, which at my local city govt hospital this is not covered by the 30b plan for Thais, when we asked 3yrs ago the price, for My thai wife 5,000b me 10,000b. I expect to pay more than Thais but 100% ! if it was say 20% well ok. As with our small local hospital to see the Doctor 300b city hospital 100b when I pointed this out to the doctor i was told it is up to the hospital manager to set the prices. As with all Govt places they make there own rules.

They would pay the compulsory NHS surcharge as part of the settlement process. Would you be prepared to pay something similar to be able to access Thai State healthcare? Two on settlement visas and one on a 3 week visit. What is the something similar you mention? The chances are I would, but not to pay the extortionate fees, and try to understand the legal jargon of the thieving insurance companies.

I have paid to use the Thai State healthcare at a public hospital. What is not right is the 4-tier pricing structure. Price charges should be the same regardless of race.

If you were enrolled while working for the required time period it does nto matter that you no longer have a work permit. Call the SS head office if necessary, or try at a different SS office. Too late now this was around 5 years ago.

Something similar to the UK's IHS (Immigration Health Surcharge) where people on student visas or settlement visas pay an upfront fee which entitles them to free NHS services while they're in the UK. https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigration-application

I went to my local SS office with company HR, which just happened to be in the same building as the company. They told me to come back after my WP was cancelled. I went back after WP cancelled, again with company HR only to be told "cannot" you don't have a WP. Did you claim your payments back after the WP was cancelled? They pay them straight into your bank, the Social Security Office have details of any dates and places of work, along with amount of SS contributions paid in by each employer,if there are any anomalies, such as non payment of contributions, they will call the employer in question to find out why it has not been paid, and get it resolved. You need to take your passport, and a summary of Employers/Dates,so that they can verify contributions have been paid to SS Office.

The one on the settlement visa would have paid the surcharge, so would have been entitled to free NHS treatment (you can't get a settlement visa without it). The one on holiday should have received a bill from the NHS if they knew she was only visiting, but in practice it doesn't often work out like that. If there's an outstanding payment due to the NHS and it's linked to her passport, it may affect any future visitor visa applications.
WhiteBuffaloATM
there is no “discrimination” in this case (that I can see). if he wants to pay the 30 baht thai nhs tariff then get thai citizenship. if he wants best foreigner thai SS then get a Work Permit. if he wants to really go after anti -foreigner discrimination in a meaningful way , start with foreigners not able to legally own land here…..
