Good for the nation?????

In fact Dual Pricing generally is bad for the nation! It is bad for the reputation of the country, as it presents the Thais as greedy and completely insensible of the damage their attitude has on foreigners. It obviously also enhances the Thai xenophobia, as I experience occasionally even when talking to Thai "friends". Not only that several of them do not understand that the system is discriminating, they even are convinced that they are entitled to charge farangs extra. Probably the silliest, but for a Thai also "plausible" explanation I have heard is, that "we charge you because we can".

You are no Thai and you have enough money, therefore: SOM NAM NA !!!

unfortunately do you think Thailand government/judges give a rats ass to their reputation, the majority of tourists (at the least the ones I know) do know very well Thailand's greedy reputation, maybe they don't know the old saying "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face"

do you mean Paradee Resort? nice but a bit expensive....is there something nice for about 1.5 to 2k/night?

So if this is the case why don't other countries start dual pricing Thai citizens? It would be good to see how they enjoy living up to the standards they uphold. I think from now on I should charge Thai people more as its good for my country.. Hmm may not have a lot of work coming in soon..

"The bottom line is that foreigners must pay 96% additional for labour cost.

"Foreigners must also pay 25% additional (cost) for highly trained English speaking personnel".

I can see additional fees for:-

English TV stations

Foreign, non-Thai food

But not 96% for additional labour. What labour?

English? Most well trained doctors speak English.

This now shows what this place is made of , Greedy Greasy Grubs.

lol

My son got stitches in his foot - at BNH Soi Convent it was 1,200 Baht to change the dressing. At the police hospital it was 80 Baht - I presume cheaper for Thais.

Not exactly money grabbing to be fair.

There is unfair for those who pay tax to Thailand, and that is two groups, expats who retire and choose to pay tax (get less tax back home), and those who work and pay tax. Those who do not pay tax, what do you really complain about?

Correct in some way but but not correct in another way. I pay taxes and some of the doctors added medicines to the social insurance bill that normally had to be paid by me. He said let the generals pay. On another occasion in Sukhothai a doctor treated a Farang for free in government hospital. I had to go for a CT scan in a famous CNX hospital that has many American graduates and by hearing my name the price almost doubled, my doctor cancelled on the spot. In the tourist business hotel prices for THai and Asians are usually higher than those for the European market as the last group spend more in the hotel while the Thai buy outside.  Our embassies can help by refusing visas to a certain group (from all the corrupt departments) of people, not much but it would help, increasing import duty on shrimp and poultry would be another step.

According to press reports the court said that it did not see the dual pricing as discriminatory

just wondering if these people (government/judges)  know that some of their citizens live and work in foreign countries or outside of Thailand, would it be ok if the countries whereby Thai citizens live and/or work would be treated the same discriminatory/racist way .....

Imagine the howls of "discrimination" should any Western country specifically target foreigners for the fleecing.  Imagine a Thai green card holder walking into the North Hollywood hospital and being handed an inflated bill because "your not an American."
The screams would be heard in Bangkok.

I don't hear Thais moaning about the dual standards when a Thai retires to the US compared to a US person retiring to Thailand.

An american must pay 1900 baht a year and show they can spend 800,000 baht, whereas a Thai retiring to the US must invest 16,000,000 baht and be subject to total scrutiny. Yeah, let's have some reciprocation.

Hospital pricing:

I was taken to a govt hospital by a expat friend.  The procedure cost me 8000Bt even though I had that hospitals ID as my primary car.

3 weeks later, I had the SAME procedure, SAME hospital, and itwas taken to the hospital ( in a ambulance ) by my Thai GF, cost was 2450Bt

Go figure

Even the Isle of Wight gives residents discounts on bus fares.

But you are arguing with people that take everything that happens here as a sign they are hated by Thai people, yet the only Thai people they appear to speak to are their Isaan girlfriend and the girl selling them booze in 7-11 or Big C if it's a 'big night out'.

It must be a bizarre life - living somewhere, isolating yourself from society and thinking they are out to get you.

You appear to be a  condescending character from reading your posts Pedro.

For goods and services that are subsidized by taxes (public funds), it's logical and reasonable that Thais should pay less.  Foreigners (unless they are paying tax) should pay a higher price.  I don't see a problem with that.

For goods and services that are NOT publicly subsidized it should be the same price.

Everyone pays tax. What are you talking about? I guess you specifically mean income tax. Is that even something all Thais pay?

Anyone who have been in this country longer than one day know that foreigners are being discriminated when it comes to many things in Thailand's everyday life, when such ugly practice will stop no one knows but this is one of downfall of living in this country and as long as Thai people don't really care to correct it, it shall remain so, like the other day our condo organised a Covid ATK test to all the unit owners and tenants, Thai for free forthrightness pays 600 baht...

lest we  forget I  just received two pfizer   covid  jabs inc free  labour from a  Thai  hospital, admittedly the vaccine had been donated by the US  (Thank a  Yank) but not everything is bad

We never knew if there was also some check  accompanied with  the vaccine for the BKK Hospital services ..... we could ask the French as they organized such a vacc. program whole by themselves , so they could enlighten us

I think this is a fair comment - However, in 15 years I have never met a proficient English speaker in a hospital, they are generally OK to a degree, but I find them to be lacking in important vocabulary and with poor listening skills. I have a specialist that asks me the questions in English and then asks my wife to translate the answer that I have just told him.

I am sure there are plenty of good doctors with good English skills out there, its just I have never come across one. Generally, nurses in my local hospital don't speak English and we usually speak in Thai.

Does this mean, if the doctor doesn't speak English well enough and prefers to use Thai, that means we will be exempt from price gouging, I mean the additional cost?

Bizarre - the doc that did my knee op graduated in Harvard and worked at a govt hospital and Bumrungrad. English was perfect. The anesthetist gave me options prior to the op that was like a Smorgasbord of opiates, gasses, injections for me to choose from - all in English and I even asked him if he wanted to come to a party at my house in a few weeks and could he bring his bag of drug - all in English, he got it, we had a laugh.

In fact, I cannot recall going to see a doctor in the past 15 years that didn't speak perfect English.

In fact, a friend of mine is a software developer for Bumrungrad and she speaks perfect English too.

Where is it you live in Thailand? 1980?

Also - I don't take my wife into doctors appointments. That sounds weird to me - does she go in on the offchance you might use it as an opportunity to escape or something?
